Normally what you would do is check the vehicle owners manual to determine if the vehicle can be flat towed. I checked a copy of the manual online but there were no references to recreational towing that I could find. Only emergency towing guidelines.
If you get the go ahead from Chevy to flat tow the truck then there are 5 items you will need to flat tow it: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking.
For base plates as long as you don't have the 3500 or diesel models use the Demco kit, # DM9518019. I like them because you don't need to remove any arms when not towing and they're quite hidden. If you have a 1-ton or diesel truck let me know.
With the Demco kit the Dominator, # DM9511008, is the best tow bar. It has a 7,500 pound capacity and includes safety cables.
For lighting the easiest set up and most cost effective is going to be a magnetic kit such as # RM-2120. Using this kit will bypass the truck wiring so you will not have to splice into the trucks side wiring at all.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you. The individual cost of each item can be seen on their respective product pages. The cost of a flat towing set up can be surprising because of all the required components. You may find that putting the truck on an appropriate sized trailer is around the same cost.
