Hitch and Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a 2002 Ford Escape
Question:
Can I put a weight distributing hitch on a 2002 Ford Escape with a 1and one quarter receiver opening? If so what part and model? Also is there an adapter that will fit into same receiver to make it a 2 inch receiver opening?

There are no weight distribution systems that are designed to work with a 1-1/4 inch hitch like what you have on your 2002 Ford Escape, but I do have a solution for you.
You will need to replace your hitch with a 2 inch hitch like the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75118. With this hitch you can use a WD system. You can not use a WD system with a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch hitch adapter either.
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
I attached a help article on WD systems for you to check out as well as a link to all the systems we carry. Select your tongue weight from the filter and all of the correct systems will be listed.
