The Sidewinder king pin should attach to your Hijacker hitch with no problem, but the Sidewinder is not to be used with a slider. If the Hijacker hitch is a slider it will have to remain locked in the towing position when using the Sidewinder like part # ST400-5AS16K.

Replacing the Teflon skid plate on the hitch will depend on usage. There is no defined length of time listed that shows how often it needs to be replaced because there are too many factors that could cause the plate to wear.

If you are looking to replace the hitch you have, just let me know what the year, make, and model of your truck is and I will be happy to make some recommendations that will work for you. Also if you let me know what pin box you have on your 2011 Palomino fifth wheel trailer I can make a recommendation for a Sidewinder pin box as well.

The Sidewinder Pin Box part # ST400-5AS16K weighs about 145 lbs and has a weight capacity of 16,000 lbs, and from what I was able to find in my research the Pullrite Superslider hitch weighs about 115 lbs and has a weight capacity of 16,000 lbs as well.

The Sidewinder moves the pivot point of the trailer back 22 inches. To be certain if the Sidewinder will provide enough clearance you would need to know the distance from the center of the hitch jaws to the truck cab, the width of the front of the trailer divided by 2, and the length of the Sidewinder arm.

An example is: With the 16K Sidewinder arm at 22 inches, if the distance from the center of the hitch to the cab is 36 inches, 36 + 22 = 58 inches. If your fifth wheel trailer is 102 inches wide, divide that by 2 which is 51 inches. Then subtract 51 from 58 and the 7 inches is the amount of clearance you would have using a Sidewinder. To safely make a 90 degree turn you need at least 4 inches of clearance.

Since a Sidewinder is a replacement for a trailer pin box, you will need to know the make and model number of the pin box you have installed on your trailer. The # ST400-5AS16K you referenced is designed to be a replacement for Leland 7910, 7920 and 7921 pin boxes, and has a 16,000 lb capacity.

Another Sidewinder pin box we offer that has a 16,000 lb capacity is part # RP61412. This pin box is designed to replace Fabex 500, 520, 560, and 765, Lippert 1116, 1716 and 0115, and RBW 7019 and 7028 pin boxes.
