Can a Battery for an Electric Winch be Mounted Inside an Enclosed Trailer

Question:

Ive got a 20ft car hauler that I use as my equipment trailer for log splitters atvs that sort of stuff. I was looking and mounting a winch on the inside for pulling these items in the trailer in case of a break down. Can I just mount the battery inside the trailer just going to use a car battery and run a charger cable to the outside for plugging the battery up for charging. is that okay to put the battery inside the trailer

You can put a battery inside the trailer but you would want to place it in a box of some kind since batteries have gases and chemicals in them. We have different battery boxes depending on the size you will need. I have included a link to them for you.

You can run a wire to get a maintenance charge via the 12 volt circuit in the trailer wiring. However, it will not charge up the battery. The wiring is too small and most vehicle alternators are not strong enough to push back the amperage needed to charge up a battery.

You would need to periodically charge the battery using an AC charger such as # CTEK56353. I have also included a link to a help article that explains different ways to wire an electric winch.
