Can I Tow a Wildcat 5th Wheel Trailer Weighing 8415 Pounds Dry Weight with a 2008 Toyota Tundra 5.7L
Question:
I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra, Double Cab, 4X4, standard bed, 5.7L, with towing package, 4.30 axle. The trucks specs are as follows: GVWR = 7,100, GCWR = 16,000, Max Payload = 1,580, curb weight = 5,520, GAWR = 8,150, RGAWR = 4,150, RGAW = 2,305, FGAWR = 4,000, FGAW = 3,215. I am interest in purchasing a 2008 Forest River Wildcat 28RKBS 5th wheel trailer with a dry weight of 8415 and a hitch weight of 1330. Would my Tundra with a sliding hitch be able to pull this ?

Your slider hitch such as Reese 5th wheel trailer hitch # RP30051 has a slider hitch that moves the hitch and king pin 10-inches closer to your tail gate. You will need to measure from the back of your cab to the center of your hitch, plus another 10 inches (how far the slider hitch moves) and then another 4-inches to equal at least 52-inches. The greater the space between the cab and 5th wheel trailer allows for greater turning clearance.
With that example, you would need at least 52-inches in order to pull a 2008 Forest River Wildcat which has a width of 96-inches.
Since you want to tow a 2008 Forest River Wildcat weighing 8,415 pounds, I would double-check the GCWR (usually located on the door jam) and subtract your vehicle weight 5,520 (add in weight of people, luggage etc.). That will provide you the maximum weight you can tow.
I also included articles about 5th wheels and sidewinders and a couple videos too.
