Axle Recommendation for a Converted Off-Road Trailer

Question:

Your spindle number TRU59FR measures 1.375 inches in diameter at the stub. The ID of my existing axle tube measures 1.430 inches. This is a difference of 55 thousands which seems like a lot in order to keep the new spindles parallel to the axle tube. If a buy a new axle tube will it have a smaller ID that will more closely fit your spindles? Secondly, do the spindles only need to be welded full circle at the end of the axle tube or should I drill a hole through the tube that would allow a small amount of welding closer to the end of the spindle stub? I am trying to utilize an existing axle tube by narrowing it to make a trailer that will be used for off-highway only. Thanks,

If you are planning on purchasing a new trailer axle it will have a spindle already attached to it. Installing spindles is a very precise job that should only be done by a qualified fabricator with trailer fab experience.

Since your planning on using the trailer for off-road purposes a better option might be the Timbren Axle-Less systems like the # ASR2KHDS03. This will give the trailer a 4 inch lift, is setup for wide off-road tires, will give better ground clearance than a standard axle, and comes with spindles attached. For matching hubs you would want # 84545UC1-EZ.
