Does Derale Stacked-Plate Engine Oil Cooler Kit have a Gross Trailer Weight Rating
Question:
You had recommended for a 2010 Dodge Journey towing 2300 lbs the Derale Stacked-Plate Engine Oil Cooler Kit w/ Non-Thermostatic Sandwich Adapter, # D15604. I will be towing closer to 3000 lbs on the same year and model of vehicle. Would you recommend the same engine oil cooler or a different one? Also, do you think towing that much weight is too much for this vehicle ? it is a 3.5 L with a 6-speed auto. Thanks.

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Derale Stacked-Plate Engine Oil Cooler Kit w/ Non-Thermostatic Sandwich Adapter is not given a gross trailer weight rating by the manufacturer, but my contact did say as long as your towing vehicle does not exceed its gross trailer weight rating you will be fine.
According to my research your 2010 Dodge Journey has a gross trailer weight rating of 3,500 pounds. This is the maximum the vehicle can tow, even if a trailer hitch is rated higher. The limiting factor is the component with the lowest capacity, which is the rating you need to go by. You will want to check your owner's manual to confirm the weight capacity.
I have included a FAQ article about Engine Oil Coolers for you to check out.
