What Size Transmission Cooler Fittings for 2004 Chevy Malibu Maxx

Question:

I have a transmission cooler. What fitting do I need to remove a factory transmission line from the radiator and connect to my transmission cooler? Also, do I remove the factory top or bottom line of the factory transmission cooler to connect to my remote cooler that I will place in front of the AC condenser thus allowing maximum airflow to the remote transmission cooler? Thanks

The fitting needed will depend on both the transmission cooler and the lines for the transmission. Some transmission coolers use slip-on fittings in which case nothing other than a hose clamp is needed. Others use NPT threaded fittings and others still use AN thread fittings.

You will need to trace the lines back to the transmission to find out which line is the sending line and which is the return line. If you will retain use of the factory transmission cooler, you will want the fluid to exit the transmission, pass through the factory, pass through the aftermarket cooler, then finally return to the transmission.

If you do not wish to retain the factory transmission cooler, remove both lines from it and re-connect them to your aftermarket cooler. There is no set in or out on a transmission cooler. You can connect either of the lines to either of the fittings.
