Weight Distribution Recommendation for a Travel Trailer that has Tongue Weight of 485 lbs

Question:

I want to purchase Weight Distribution system PS49901. It has Tongue Weight capacity of 550 lbs. My travel trailer has TW= 485 Lbs, Unloaded Wt = 4335 Lbs. and GVWR = 7000 lbs. Please let me know if the wight distribution system PS49901 is adequate for the trailer. Do I need to go one step higher to PS49582 which has TW capcity of 750 lbs?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

If your loaded tongue weight is 485 lbs the # PS49901 that you referenced would be an excellent choice.

However, if you think your loaded tongue weight will be any more than that under any circumstances the # PS49582 would be a better choice.
