Does Draw Tite Activator Have to Be Powered Directly to Battery

Question:

The wiring diagram says not to connect the battery + wire to the fuse panel. But the wiring harness, supplied by the Toyota car maker, says the battery wire is fused.inch If the harness battery wire is fused, is that the same as connecting to the fuse panel? Does the following diagram look right? It would look like this: From the car wiring harness: From the brake controller: black-red wire: fused battery feed............... black wire: battery + Thank yuou,

If you are hardwiring a brake controller to a vehicle you want to make sure you run the power wire of the controller to the vehicle battery through a circuit breaker. If the vehicle has brake controller wiring or a port for installing a brake controller then it will draw power through the fuse panel, but it is doing so through a circuit specifically designed for a brake controller.

Brake controllers draw a decent amount of amperage so you wouldn't want to power one through a circuit that is being used for something else already as it would most likely overdraw the circuit. Since your vehicle has brake controller wiring you would be safe to use it for installation of the Draw Tite Activator part # 5504.

Also, you can wire up the controller like you suggested by using the fused brake controller power circuit that is black/red.
