Tow Bar, Base Plates and Equipment Needed to Tow 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Behind a Motorhome

Question:

What are the specific parts needed to make this happen. Do the parts change if I lift the vehicle later?

According to my research, the Wrangler Unlimited is capable of being flat towed, but there will be specific procedures mentioned in the owner's manual that need to be followed to the letter. Failure to do so could cause damage to the drivetrain of your vehicle.

The Demco Commander II tow bar you referenced, part # DM9511012, is an excellent choice, it also includes the necessary safety cables. To provide a mounting location for the tow bar, you'll need the # DM9519292 base plate kit which fits a stock bumper without winches or brush guards.

For a wiring solution so that the taillights of the Jeep operate in tandem with the RV, I'd recommend using the Hopkins # HM56200 wiring harness. The harness provides a plug and play installation with no cutting or splicing required.

Finally, most states and Canadian Provinces require a supplemental braking system. I like the Demco # SM99251, because of the easy setup once it's installed.

All the parts mentioned above will still be compatible if you should install a lift kit on the vehicle. You'll want the tow bar to be no higher than three inches above or below level. If it isn't within three inches of level, use a high/low adapter (see link) to even out the height difference.

I'll link you to some articles with additional information about flat towing. I hope you'll find them helpful. I'll also link you to some installation videos showing one of the base plates, the wiring and the braking system being installed on a late model Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.
