Recommended Receiver Hitch Adapter and Hitch Mounted Bike Rack for a 2009 Honda Civic

i have a 2009 honda civic with a 1-1/4 inch hitch mount. i want to have a bike rack and a load extender for a kayak, but i only have one 1-1/4 in receiver.

I recommend the hitch adapter # HTAD as it will convert your 1-1/4 inch receiver to a 2-inch receiver. You will then be able to use a Extend-A-Truck kayak carrier like # DTA944-968-924.

Please take into consideration that the tongue weight capacity of your hitch will be reduced by 50 percent with use of adapter. This is because the hitch adapter moves the load out farther from your vehicle, applying more leverage to your hitch.

The bike rack I recommend is the Thule Helium Aero # TH9042PRO. It's only 19 pounds and will fit 1-1/4 and 2-inch receiver hitches. This rack also comes with One-Key system locks to deter theft of the rack and your bikes.
