Can a 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch be Installed on a Truck with a Flat Bed

Question:

First and formost happy new years. I was /am considering installing a hitch on one of my trucks, but not sure if I can. My delima? I have a chevy 3500 with a 12 x 8 foot steel flat bed. Are there any options for a fifth wheel for this application. The tail end of the bed is aproximatly 64inch from the center of my axle.

There is one option that will allow you to install a 5th wheel trailer hitch on a truck with a flat bed. You will need to use the Reese low-profile hitch, # RP30054. This requires a custom installation using a 1/2 inch steel plate. I have included a link to the installation details to the right.

The issue is that given the location of your rear axle relative to the end of the flat bed you would have very little clearance to turn. Most likely, the trailer would make contact with the truck bed.
