Tire Chain Recommendation for a 2001 Chevy Camaro
Question:
I had a chain installer install Peerless #0175355 for my P245 / 55 R16 tires on my rear wheels since it is rear wheel drive. My car was fishtailing on flat ground with no ice or snow. Once I got to an incline with a bit of snow, I nearly slid into a ditch. I turned around and went back down the mountain. Id like for this to never happen again. What tire cables would you recommend so that this doesnt happen again? The manufacturer recommends not using chains because theyll hit the wheel well, and Ive in fact confirmed that with experience although the chains did succeed in getting me up the mountain. Im going to get adjusters, but I doubt thats the final solution? Can you give me a brand and a link, and Ill buy the new cables?

As an owner of a similar F-body as your 2001 Chevy Camaro I can say that what helps me the most in the snow is a set of snow tires. Since Chevy doesn't recommend the use of snow chains on your car I can't really recommend you do so.
That being said, if you were to go with a set of chains on your vehicle I would recommend a diamond pattern chains as they do a much better job than the ladder style cables and chains for side to side traction. Cables don't provide nearly the same amount of traction as chains.
For that I would recommend the Thule Chains part # TH2004205104. This will give you excellent traction and are S rated so they will give you better fender well clearances. This chain is specifically designed with a low profile for the best fender well clearances. These are only 9 mm thick.
These chains automatically tighten and align as you drive for quick, simple installation.
