Powering a Supplemental Braking System on 2014 Honda CR-V Without Draining Battery

Question:

My owners manual for my 2014 CRV says not to plug anything into the cig lighter while towing, but I need to power up my Brake Buddy. Any ideas on how to do this without running the battery down during a pull? Is it possible to run a live wire from my motorhome? Im fixing to have the Baseplates installed in a few weeks Thanks!

I spoke with my Hopkins representative about your concerns. I was told that you can use a 12-volt outlet kit, part # RM-9332 installed under the dash to provide power for your Brake Buddy. You can wire the outlet directly to the vehicle battery, or into the 12-volt accessory circuit coming from the 7-way trailer connector on the motorhome.

I was told that you should be fine wiring directly to the battery as long as you start the towed vehicle every few hours.

I've linked you to some of our FAQ articles about flat towing. I hope you'll find them helpful.
