Distance Between Hangers for the # APS5 kit When Used with Leaf Spring # SP-212275
Question:
I think the spring mount spacing should be less than the spring eye-eye length to get the shackles to lean back, yet for your 25-14inch spring you specify 25-3/4 mount spacing. When I do this, the shackles will lean forward and that is wrong. Please check this. APS5 Thanks

Your logic about the shackle leaning the correct direction is spot-on, but the thing about leaf springs is that they flatten out when weight is put on them. So although the # e54SR you referenced is 25-1/4 inches long when uncompressed it should flatten out once installed and the weight of the trailer is on it so that the angle of the shackle strap will be correct.
The best way to use the dimensions recommended for spring hanger kits is to use them as a guide. When everything is assembled and there is no weight on the trailer suspension the shackle should sit completely vertical without any angle. If this is accomplished with the recommended measurement then you are good to go. If not, then you will need to adjust the dimensions.
You will want to have the hangers 25-3/4 inches apart with this spring and the hanger kit # APS5.
