Measuring Clearance On 2004 Jeep Liberty With Rear-Mount Spare For Hitch Mount Bike Rack

Question:

Will the Thule Hitch Bike Racks - TH934XTR fit a 2004 jeep liberty with a spare tire on the back? I did not see a video for this, but I did see the wrangler video and I think it should work. I just want to be sure.

There is an easy way to check and see if you will have the clearance you need for the Thule Hitching Post Pro, part # TH934XTR on your 2004 Jeep Liberty.

You will need a straight edge like a yardstick or a dowel and a tape measure. Place the straight edge vertically against the back of your spare tire and let it extend below the hitch on your Liberty. Then measure from the center of the hitch pin hole to the straight edge. This will give you the clearance distance you need when considering any hitch mounted items.

When we have done trailer hitch installations on a Jeep Liberty, we found this distance to be between 9 inches and 15 inches depending on the tire size and trailer hitch.

The # TH934XTR has a distance of 13-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin to the upright bar of the carrier, so if the distance you measure for your spare tire is less than 13-1/2 inches, you should have no problem with the # TH934XTR.
