Removing Rusted Grease Caps from a Trailer Hub

Question:

I have an 08 coachman chaparel 34b. My problem is the caps on the wheels are rusted and look terrible. I believe thses caps are for looks only as I have taken the center plastic center off and looked at the hub center which appears to be the grease fittings. My question is I have tried to remove these chrome caps with negative results,. as they wont break loose. do I have to beat tehm loose as I have tried a rubber malet and cant get them loose. What do I do from this point as I would like to replace them. Suggestions and do you have anthing to replace them with for that 5th wheel QQQ Thanks

Often times, especially if they are rusted, grease caps will take quite a bit of convincing to remove. When they are this stubborn, often times the caps will be destroyed in the process of removing them. Sometimes we beat them pretty hard in our shop or use a screwdriver to wedge them out.

The only way to know if the Fulton Grease Cap, part # F001518, will fit is if you measure the inside diameter of the trailer hub. It should be 1.988 inches. It may be a little smaller due to rust, so clean the hub up well before you measure, and I would suggest using a set of calipers to measure. If the inside hub diameter is a different measurement, write back and let me know what it is and I will help you find the right cap.

I have included links to some videos of our installers working on hubs so you can see how they remove the caps.
