Why Does the Bully Backup Light Turn Off Immediately When Vehicle is Put in Reverse

Question:

2014 Ford Lariat F150....installed and tapped into the backup light circuit right at the backup light plug with the blue connector as described in the literature. When the vehicle is placed in reverse, the installed backup light comes on momentarily and then goes out. If I turn the truck off and let the headlights go out, then start the truck and again place it in reverse, the same thing happens. If after the backup light momentarily goes out, I place the vehicle in park without turning it off and again place it in reverse, no light at all....??? Im a retired electrical engineer so I feel certain everything is hooked up correctly. Help??

It sounds like the circuit you have tapped into to power the # PL-807 doesn't have the amperage rating to power it. A 55 watt bulb like what this light has will draw 4.5 amps.

What I would recommend you try instead is tapping into the reverse light circuit of the trailer connector at the rear of your 2014 Ford F-150 Lariat. This will be the center pin of the 7-way connector.

2013 Ford Xlt F150....installed and tapped into the reverse light bulb right at the backup light plug with the blue connector. When the vehicle is placed in reverse, the installed backup light comes on momentarily and then goes out. If I turn the truck off and let the headlights go out, then start the truck and again place it in reverse, the same thing happens. If after the backup light momentarily goes out, I place the vehicle in park without turning it off and again place it in reverse, nothing. But if I turn the truck off and turn the key with Out starting the led comes on and stays on..

I might test the reverse light circuit to see how much power you get when activating that signal. It does sound like the Backup Light just isn't getting enough amperage to operate consistently.
