How do the BOLT Trailer Hitch Receiver Locks Key to a Vehicle

How does it code to my specific key and can it be recoded to another key of the same car manufacturer if I buy a new car in the future?

The BOLT Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # BL7018447 that you referenced keys to your vehicle pretty simply. All you have to do is insert your vehicle's key in the core and turn it as far as you can clockwise. Once this has been done the lock will be keyed to your vehicle. Check out the install video for more info that I attached to the right.
You can only key a BOLT like this once to a vehicle. If you upgrade to a newer vehicle you would need to replace the lock as well.
