Enhancing Factory Overload Springs

The lower factory overload springs on your truck are designed to help compensate for a large payload. When you are hauling a heavy load, your truck's standard leaf springs can't always counteract the weight of it. As a result, if you hit a bump when your suspension is fully loaded, the leaf springs will give and cause your truck to bottom out. The overload springs help keep this from happening by mounting beneath the leaf springs to provide points of contact for the stressed springs.

Gap Between Standard Leaf Spring and Lower Overload Spring

There is natural gap between your truck's standard leaf springs and its lower overload springs. This gap allows the upper leaf springs to flex a bit before making contact with the overload springs, but having this gap creates a situation where bounce (or jounce) often occurs. StableLoads are designed to fill the gap between your standard springs and your overload springs. This pre-activates the overload springs, ensuring that they are engaged from the start instead of engaging only when your leaf springs make contact, at which point you've probably already felt the jarring.

StableLoad Suspension Enhancement and Aftermarket Air Bags

By enhancing your lower overload springs in the way described above, you will notice less sway and body roll. This is due to the pre-loading effect of the StableLoads, which helps to better distribute the weight of your payload over the entirety of your factory suspension. This is the primary difference between StableLoads and many air bag overload systems.

With air bag suspension enhancement, the load in your truck is being taken on by the air bags. Air bags are designed to level your truck, and they operate as intended when they're under a normal load. But if you are hauling or towing a particularly heavy load, this type of suspension enhancement can create some problems. In order to get the correct amount of leveling and to ensure that your suspension won't bottom out, you will likely have to fill the air bags to a very high psi. Doing this effectively removes the load from your factory suspension. As a result, your truck's suspension is no longer able to operate as it was designed. This can lead to handling issues, such as porpoising, sway, or body roll.

If you currently have this problem with your air bag system, you can add StableLoads to your suspension and get the best out of both products. StableLoads are effective on their own, but they've also been tested with aftermarket air bag suspension systems. The two enhancements work particularly well together if you have a heavy payload. By installing StableLoads between your lower overload springs and your standard leaf springs, you are already adding support to your suspension to help prevent bottoming out, which air bags work to prevent as well. As a result, you won't have to fill the bags nearly as full, which means that they won't take as much of the load off of your factory suspension, thus allowing your suspension to function as designed - only better.

Quick Disconnect

TorkLift Fortress Propane Tank Lock

These StableLoads can be quickly and easily engaged and disengaged. The quick-disconnect design allows you to pivot the wedge pack - the piece that sits between the springs - in and out of position with a standard ratchet and 3/8" extension (not included). As a result, you can get a stable load when you're weighted down and then return to your regular ride when you're done hauling.

Tested and Proven Winner

TorkLift's StableLoads were tested against vehicles with no suspension enhancement and vehicles with air bags that were inflated to 100 lbs; and the results are clear. By adding StableLoads to your suspension your vehicle will ride smoother, causing less wear and tear on your suspension and tires. The trucks that were tested were loaded with 2,800 lbs. The degree of movement was then recorded, using an inclinometer, when the trucks encountered the 3 most common types of handling problems: side-to-side sway, porpoising, and body roll.

Preventing Side-To-Side Sway

Side-to-side sway is triggered when your vehicle encounters uneven ground, such as a pot hole, and the suspension gives way when it cannot counteract the weight of the heavy load being carried. This creates a side-to-side bouncing motion. As you can see in the graph above, air bags provide an advantage over no suspension upgrades. But the StableLoads offer dramatic improvement over both the standard suspension and the air bag suspension.

Preventing Porpoising

Porpoising is the rising and falling action your vehicle makes when driving over an object like a speed bump. Having too much bounce can make you feel like you're riding in the back of a school bus. As you can see in the graph, there is virtually no difference in porpoising between trucks with standard suspension systems and those with air bags. Only the StableLoad offers improvement for this type of problem.

Preventing Body Roll

Body roll occurs when your heavy load transfers unevenly as you navigate a turn, causing one side of your vehicle to lean dramatically. In some cases this can lead to your truck's tires coming off of the ground and it could even cause your vehicle to roll over if it is too top heavy. Again, according to the graph above, air bags offer no help with this problem. It is only with the StableLoads that stability improves.

Hello, neighbors and friends, welcome back. I'm Steve with etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look together at the TorkLift StableLoad Suspension Upgrade with the Quick-Disconnect Lower Overload Springs, and these are stainless steel construction. Now these are a custom fit. Make sure you're using our website, etrailer.com. The top center of the page, you'll find what's called our fit guide.

Just simply enter your year, make, and model, possibly some bed length, cab style, those kind of things, and make sure you're getting the right part the very first time. Now, these will dramatically improve the handling of your vehicle by pre-activating your vehicle's factory lower overload springs. They do help and they will evenly distribute the weight, and that's gonna ensure that the truck stays level for better handling, that kind of stuff. It's gonna reduce side to side sway and body roll, those kind of things. And they have a nice angled structure to them and it's very rigid.

And the angle structure itself is gonna minimize that contact surface to give you more effective support. And these tapered wedges here, they're all three tapered there, they're gonna give you a better, they're gonna fit between the curve springs better than like your normal flat pads that are out there. Now they are adjustable. You can simply pull a pin here. Keep in mind, I've got all this loosely put together here just for demonstration purposes, but you would pull the pin out.

And then from there, you can simply select either one wedge, two wedges, or three wedges, depending on your specific needs and want for your application. And like I said, I got this kind of loose here, so it's not gonna let 'em all spin as free as I want, but that's the general idea. You can simply put these out of the way when you're not using 'em. Put the pin back in when you're going down the road like normal driving and then they're not gonna be activated. So it's really a simple 1, 2, 3 second kind of deal on each individual one, and then they're set up and ready to go.

Now the wedge pack, like I was just showing you, it's on a very nice hinge mechanism. So the StableLoad can be pivoted in or out for the engagement, and you simply just need a 3/8 inch ratchet extension and a ratchet. Those are not included. Those are required for activation. That way you can spin that nut that's on all of those to get them down into place a lot easier, 'cause again, it's just loosely put together right now just for demo. Now again, everything here is a nice stainless steel construction. It's all heavy-duty metal. It's gonna be protected from all the elements. It's gonna be ideal for any climate out there. From Alaska all the way to Hawaii, it's gonna work perfect. It is compatible with aftermarket airbag suspension upgrades. So if you've got an airbag kit, that kind of stuff. This again is a custom fit for your vehicle. Again, check our fit guide. You can honestly install these yourself, pretty simple. It's gonna come with a nice set of instructions. There's no drill required, whatsoever. And again, you're gonna get four kits here of the StableLoad and all the necessary hardware that you see before you. Everything's very, very simple to install. It is made in the U.S.A. and it has a very nice lifetime warranty as well. Well, folks, that's gonna do it for our look together today at this TorkLift StableLoad Suspension Upgrade with the Quick-Disconnect Lower Overload Springs. I'm Steve with etrailer.com. Thank you so much for your time. Have a good day.

I don't really do reviews very often, but these things work extremely well, especially when you consider that they only take a few minutes to install and they are only blocks of rubber that are held in place by one bolt! I sprayed my factory stops down with WD-40 and pulled them out with some long needle-nose pliers wedged on both sides of the stop, between the frame and the rubber. I then glanced at the directions, figured out the stack-up I needed and installed them in less than 10 minutes! I'm not kidding! The best part is they work! They close the gap between the frame stops and the upper helper spring, engaging the spring right off the bat. I have an F350 dually with a Grey Wolf 840 that weighs 2400 ish pounds, and I haul a car trailer with a total weight of 6000 pounds behind that! These worked so well, I was amazed! These are the only suspension enhancement of this truck, too! You might need something more if you are hauling a very large camper or 5th wheel, but for me, this is all I am going to use!

by:

Just installed the upper stableLoads on my 2021 F350 dually. It was an easy job. I used long needle nose pliers to wedge underneath the factory bump sticks. Then just leveraged them out. The ride of the truck is a little rougher with no payload. Planning on loading my northern lite 10.2 truck camper on in a few weeks. I believe this will improve the ride.

by:

Adding the Tork Lift stable load suspension really helped my truck from sagging when I load up the in-bed camper. The ride is smooth and the truck handles very well. The installation was generally easy and the instructions were spot on. I highly recommend these if you want a stable ride and no sagging.

by:

They don't fit on my truck 2023 2300 denali. I will be returning them. The picture is the back
Help or Spring The torque lifts are 2 and a 1/2 inches I only have 2 inches in the back inch and a 1/2 in the front

A bit of a task drilling out the spring on my 2017 f-250.. Used a cordless drill and a floor jack. i had to drill pilot holes and use a few of my own drill bits to finish all four holes. The rest of the installation was easy. I Like the product, seems like it should work, Trying to avoid air bag if possible, Ordered a new truck camper from Northstar, but wont take delivery until late april..then i`ll put them to the test.

by:

UPS delivered with packaging intact.
L
& R Wedges are wrapped separately and labeled. Hardware was contained in a sealed bag. 2 pieces were damaged, easily replaced at the hardware store.
Instructions were reasonably clear, but there is room for improvement there.
Installation :
Installation was on a 2018 Chevy Colorado and straight forward. There is the option of installing the units inboard or outboard. Inboard installation on the Colorado would have resulted in insufficient clearance between the spare tire on the rear units, and the fuel tank on the front. Outboard installation resulted in minimal clearance with the mud flaps on the rear, and contact with the brake line and supporting bracket on the left front. Some backyard engineering with waterpump pliers was required to create adequate clearance.
Use:
Engaging the wedges is not possible with weight on the axle. The truck must be jacked up enough to unload the springs before rotating the wedges into position.
I haven't had a chance to load up the truck and hook up the trailer. I'll provide follow-up when I do.

by:

Having been in the auto/truck repair business for over 50 years, I thought this would be a good Idea so I tried it. I could have made my own but it would be a lot of cutting and drilling because it is so many pieces. I used it to add capacity so I could haul my camper that I purchased three states away and had to pick up. I used 2 of the 3 plates because there wasn’t enough room for three. It did very well like that but after I got back I added the 3rd plate figuring I could use the third one by just jacking the truck slightly before engaging. I thought all three woul be needed once the camper was full of water and gear.
I am enclosing a picture of how ti drill the springs with using the vehicles own drill press (screw jack) for changing tires.
I still need to test fully loaded and with all three plates in place.

by:

Performing as designed. Reduced sway and porpoise. Tip from Etrailer staff: had to use a small crowbar to spread the leaf springs during installation.

by:

Adds additional stability in wind. Air bags improved the level and ride, however, the distance from the overload bumpers was increased back to the factory distance. Which means a lot more side to side rocking before the helper leaf springs engaged. The torklift blocks reduced this gap and allowed earlier engagement without affecting unloaded ride.

by:

Fantastic. I found a local shop to install them on my 2017 Colorado Diesel for 2 hours of labor. The difference was amazing. Previously I felt my boat was going to push me off of the road. With the TorkLift installed I am much more relaxed. It seems my truck is more relaxed too because I saw a 2mpg increase while towing.

I didn't realize that to disengage them it would require me to jack up the truck, but they are not bothersome driving around town while engaged.

So glad I bought these. I feel like it saved me from purchasing a new truck.

by:

I installed this simple solution for use with my truck camper on my 2022 F350 SRW. They have provided a ton of stability and engage my overload springs quickly keeping my sag to a minimum.

by:

Installed the torklift stable load suspension kit on my Ford F-150. Was very easy to do following the instructions included or directly from the website. Once installed solved all of my suspensions sway by lifting the load and putting more weight on the front wheels. Immediately corrected the steering problems and distributed the load evenly so the truck was level. They are also very easy to engage or disengage from the leaf springs. No more airbags, or air shocks for me.

by:

Added these to my 2020 Black Widow Super Duty to help with sagging while pulling my work trailer. More level now. Rides a bit rougher but after a day or so I didn’t even notice any more. Removed the old bumpers with a ball joint fork and WD40. The only reason for 4 stars is the price. Expensive for a couple of pieces of rubber and a bit of metal.

by:

Stableloads have helped tremendously with sway

by:

The biggest problem I had was leveling and jacking up the truck and camper as I
have no flat surface to perform the installation. Once the load was off, the next issue was removing the factory bumps. It was a minor problem not solved by WD40. I broke out a small propane torch and heated and softened the originals and easily removed them. Obviously, make sure there are no brake lines, fuel lines, etc. nearby. It was
then very easy to install the Torklifts.
It was worth it installing them. I noticed reduced "porpoising" and less lean in corners.
In general, with my 3800# camper mounted, the ride is more "crisp" and precise.
I've include pictures of the original and the installed Forklift TLA7200

This is the best towing improvement item I have ever purchased.
We purchased a new 2018 Ford F-250 super-crew with the 6.2 gas and had our load leveling, anti-sway hitch professionally installed to tow our 2016 28' travel trailer. We towed the trailer for 1550 miles on numerous trips and it was very uncomfortable. At first I thought it was trailer sway, but soon realized it was the truck trying to point left or right or bouncing up and down every time we hit a dip or bump in the road, no matter how slight. It was truly white knuckle driving.
I searched for the problem and solutions and decided to try the TorkLift StableLoad system. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
We could tell within a few blocks from home the truck felt much more stable and on the highway it was like a different truck and trailer. We just towed the trailer 856 miles and it was an incredibly easy and relaxing drive.
I love that I can engage or disengage the devices so we don't have a stiff ride when not towing.
If I ever install one again I will have someone else drill the spring leafs or at least rent the tool from the manufacturer. I ruined the 2 drills they sent almost immediately by not using enough pressure and using too much drill speed. Once I realized what I was doing wrong I was able to drill the holes using a floor jack to apply pressure as others have described and drilling at the slowest speed possible.
Once the holes were drilled it was very easy to assemble and install the StableLoads.

by:

Installed StableLoads on a 2017 Ram 3500 dually that carries a 4500lb (wet) truck camper and pulls a 24' enclosed car trailer. The StableLoads are easy to engage/disengage depending on load, and have none of the issues common with airbags. In combination with a Hellwig BigWig sway bar, the truck rides well and handles well, even with the high center of gravity with the camper.

by:

2010 Ford F-250 FX4, 4.5" ICON suspension lift, 6.8 V10
Install is pretty easy, raise truck with a jack to take the load off the springs. WD40 and a screwdriver to pry out the old isolators. The front mounts are easier to install with more access. You can flip the bracket upside down to get more depth out off it which is what I did. However I had to modify the rear ones to mount them. The tab that sticks through the curved bracket on the rear curved mount hits the factory mount and rocks around. I had to grind a 1/4" off of it to make it sit flush. Also some larger washers would have been nice but for sure not a deal breaker.

The truck is definitely a little bit more bouncy, I have a camper shell and about a thousand pounds of tools in it at all times. I commute in the truck about 60 miles a day over some winding mountain roads, it definitely handles the corners WAY better than it used to, you do feel a lot more of the small road bumps more, but once again not a deal-breaker.

by:

Work very well, add air to air bags then engage them and release air. Very easy to use and a real noticeable difference

by:

I have a 1994 27 ft. Fifth wheel camper that we got in May and I pull it with a 2016 Ford F-150 4x4 supercrew and I had troubles with the trailer starting to sway at around 60 mph at times it was nerve racking. I did some research and found the torque lift stabilizer kit and installed it on my pick up. All I can say is WOW this kit took care of my sway problem 100%. We used it for the first time since installing the kit and it was trouble free and I ran around 72 mph with no problems!! I would highly recommend this kit & shipping was fast!

by:

Outstanding product. The trailer is twice as stable as it was was with the former system and much easier to set up. I would recommend it to anyone needing a leveler/stabilizer system. The added stiffness of the Torklift springload is a perfect combination. Just finished a 3000 mile trib in wind and bad weather with no issues.

by:

I purchased 6/1/22 received 6/7/22 and I’ll give 5 stars for simple and easy installation. Took all of 10-15 minutes to install all 4 pieces including removing OEM stoppers. Only reason for purchasing these is that I purchased the Air Lift 5000 Air springs assist and the Air lift Smartair II DuelCompressor for Ford F-250 2020.
The Smart Air II with Leveling arms has been a nightmare and have had to replace now 2 airbags same side that failed and a compressor that has now failed and quit working. Hopefully these will prevent in the event of an airbag failure from allowing the airbag to drop completely and damaging my truck again with a leveler arm going thru my truck. Will see how new airbags and new compressor system works with these torklift and will put my travel Trailer on and hopefully the torklift will stop the arms from hitting the truck bed.
