The one-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel hitch provides absolute security with its wraparound design. Increased jaw-to-king-pin contact results in not only a stronger connection, but less noisy rattling and stiff chucking as well.
The jaw is also always ready to receive, so you don't need to use the handle to open it before backing up toward your trailer. As long as the bail pin is removed from the latching handle, the jaw will accept the king pin as it enters the hitch.
Finally, the jaw is self-latching, so it will automatically secure your trailer's king pin when it moves into the jaw.
In addition to the tight jaw tolerance, a close connection between the head and the pivot bushings further reduces rattle and movement. And because the pivot bushings are independent from the head, they can be tightened to ensure a strong connection over time.
This M5 hitch features a built-in king pin indicator to ensure proper hookup. This indicator is located on the back of the head along with a V-shaped notch that are both visible from the cab of your truck. The V-notch is lined up with the jaw at the front of the hitch, and can be used as a guiding point to line the king pin up with the jaw as you back up your truck. The jaw also has an internal plate that keeps the king pin from entering if it is too high to enter safely. As a result, the king pin indicator will only change from red to green if the king pin is fully engaged in the jaw.
This hitch's handle is designed for smooth motion and effortless operation. It requires only 2 fingers to use and won't bind up as you pull. In addition, the handle is long, so it's easy to access from outside of your truck bed. And the ergonomic grip makes it comfortable to hold and pull from different angles.

The least of which and did not affect the rating I gave was that the leg sets do not have the perforated blue cover on their sides but a palm sized M5 medallion. This was a Reese change and is not a fault of etrailer.
The main concern is that I had to reorder the leg set due to what I thought were under tapped holes. The new leg set came in with he same issue. It turns out that Reese did not mask the threads and paint in the tapped holes caused the bolts to jam up on the paint. One bolt was ruined and the other would have been too if I had tried it. I'm not sure if the tapped hole were ruined as well. I bought a M16x2 tap and chased the holes to fix the problem. In the attached photo you can see that the cuttings were black paint and not shiny metal.
Do not hesitate to buy this hitch. I made the mistake of buying a Demco Recon before this.
Overall I’m happy with how the M5 functions. The assembly instructions were a little vague which meant I had to do it twice. I am disappointed in how the side accent panels are (were) attached. ALL the cheap little panel fasteners were broken and so I’m operating without them. I’ll keep the nylon spacers and use bolts instead of that plastic garbage. I would have sent it back if it were not for taking delivery of my camper the next day.

I like that it is not too heavy since I remove it from my truck occasionally. It is always looking caked when it shows the green window which has helped me be confident as a new 5th wheel owner.

Great hitch overall, I would buy another (4.5 stars)
- very secure and solid
- easy to move in and out of a truck bed
Some notes to consider:
- the base-legs and middle assembly need to be properly torqued, and most buyers won't have a torque wrench up to the task
- head plate paint coating is easily scratched by the kingpin when hitching, which will then eventually rust (within a few days if you're near the ocean).
- If you're buying a new 5th wheel, the deal may offer installation of your hitch, and hitch-up your RV while the purchase is finalized. Insist that the installer uses a lube plate, otherwise again, the bare-metal pinbox will scratch the devil out of it.
- The head plate was replaced after 30+ hitch/unhitch cycles due to some mechanical deformation of the lever actuated internals (in addition to scratch enabled rust). Under warrenty, the expense equates to a $[XXX] shipping fee. Black rustoleum paint was used to cover exposed metal, but it gets rubbed off during normal towing conditions.

Very sturdy and reliable 5th wheel hitch but after a couple of trips during the summer, the green/red indicator mounting pin which is made of a cheap hard plastic material sheared off. I was able to di-assemble the whole indicator assembly, drilled a hole and replaced the pin with a metal pin. Anyway, don't get me wrong. I love this 5th wheel hitch because of it's simplicity and appearance. It also mounts perfectly to the OEM gooseneck mount on my 2019 RAM 2500 Big Horn. Aside from re-enforcing the plastic indicator pin, I would also recommend to have a heavy duty cover designed specifically for this model.
Great hitch! I was worried that I purchased too much hitch, but that was not the case! Easy to put together and very easy to install!

Awesome! General maintenance has kept the Reese 5th Wheel Hitch working as expected. Has proven to be fairly easy to move in and out of my RAM pickup!
Several broken plastic pieces from the fasteners that hold on the sides to the nameplate that was completely destroyed. Not to mention no instructions and the qr code only gets you to a generic website where you have to add the part number and then you can follow a link that still doesn't show you how to install. How hard is it to include I

The people at etrailer.com are awesome. Shipping company lost one of the boxes of a 3 box shipment. I got ahold of Nicole @ Etrailer and within a short amount of time Etrailer replaced the box and now shipment complete. Now just waiting on the truck it goes in.
I received my order very quickly. It was easy to assemble and install.
Ordered hitch on Saturday evening 3/7/20 and hitch was delivered on 3/12/20. Can't ask for better service. Replacing an aging hitch that had issues.
Only issue would be with Reese. The 8 plastic rivet push clips that hold the side trim on the legs were broken. Would suggest that they use bolts instead. Might eliminate possible future ratteling as the plastic wears.
I pull a 32' fifth wheel. I am very pleased with my Reese M5.
The blue side covers can be removed is you don't wish them to be on the hitch.
by far the easiest 5th wheel hitch I have ever installed. solid
No instructions. Was suppose to be 80% assembled. Came in 3 boxes. One packing slip missing. I had to call for downloaded instructions. Frustrating!
Seems solid, just would like better assembling instructions enclosed with the product

I have not changed my opinion of this hitch. After a year of zig zagging across the country with temps well below freezing to desert highs. No problems whatsoever
