Note: To determine whether you can use snow chains on your vehicle, or if chains might affect your ABS/ESP functionality, consult your owner's manual.

These chains are great for giving you a little extra traction in the snow. But if you live somewhere where you experience heavy snow often, you'll definitely want something more heavy duty than cables. Because these cable chains are lightweight and don't take up a lot of storage space, they are also perfect for keeping in your trunk if you occasionally travel through areas that require you to have chains on hand.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's owner's manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new cable chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow cables that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even these low-profile cables can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Cable Chains

Installing cable chains is easy.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks in the cables.

Cross cable connections have a smooth side that goes against the tire

2. Where each cross cable attaches, you'll notice there is a smooth side and one with an edge. Make sure the smooth side faces in to sit against your tire's sidewall as you drape the cables over your tire.

Feed the cable through the connection loop

3. On the front of the tire, feed the cable through the connection loop until it's tight, then feed the extra cable through the second loop to keep it from flapping as you drive. Repeat this on the backside of the tire.

Optional rubber adjusters ensure a tight fit

Rubber adjusters (sold separately) are recommended to help ensure a tight fit. Connect these to the front side of the cable in a star pattern. Make sure the hooks face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing cables out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

I SURE HOPE YOU THIS PICTURE.THEY ARE GREAT,
THANKS
FOR HELP AN QUICK RESPOSE.

The product fits my "Prius" tires unlike most traditional chains. I think they will serve me well throughout the winter as I travel for work and I think I will end up driving through several snowy/chains-required passes this year.

Etrailer.com service was EXCELLENT

by:
2007 Ford Fusion

I'm prepared again. I've used these chains on my last car, 2007 Ford Fusion. Everyone at work was laughing at me when I put on the chains. (The snow was light in the morning). But later on, the snow turned heavy in the afternoon.

The snowplow have not arrived yet. And many cars could not leave the parking lot.

Now, it was my turn to laugh.

Thank you very much.

This product is the best. I highly recommend to purchase the tensioner with the chains. You would be sorry if you don't.

Only had to use them once in the past year.
I
had to put them on to go over Snoqualmie Pass east of Seattle on I-90
They worked perfectly.
(only drawback is that your fingers will get cold when you put them on)

2015 Honda Fit

I bought the tires as we plan a trip to Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic National Park. In order to go there, one must have chains in the cart.

I hope that I do not have to put them, on but the video on your web site would be a great help.

The order was delivered in plenty of time.

2013 Ford Fiesta

Ordered my cables from etrailer.com. Great price so was a little worried that they would not be up to par. They arrived quickly and I tried them on immediately as it was going to snow that day. They fit perfectly. Good price and good service.
Thank

Defiantly got the job done and takes one the snow in the mountains we'll but they do rust and the excess cable connecter broke first use which makes it extremely difficult to put on.

by:

Just received the tire chains (bought a pair for our SUV and for our small commuter car). Both were in nice carry bags. The rubber adjuster I bought for each pair easily fit in the bag. I haven't used them yet but wanted the "insurance" of having them in the car.

by:
2016 Honda Fit

Haven't had to sue them yet but I've owned enough cable chains to compare and they look as solid as any. They shipped quick even in the busy season and come in a nylon bag that'll be perfect for clean car storage after use.

These cable chains are great. I have used them before. Just in time for winter.
They arrived quickly after I ordered them. Thank you.

Tire chains were easy to apply. Unfortunately after just a couple days of use, they rusted pretty bad. They helped grip pretty well in packed snow, but they did loose some traction on ice. Overall, I would recommend them, but don’t expect them to last a long time.

Well that is not good for them to rust so quickly. One way that you can prevent the rust from appearing so quickly is to rinse off all of the snow and rust between use. The salt on the roads can cause the metal to rust pretty quickly. However, we highly recommend that if your tire chains have significant rust it's time to replace them before they fail on your vehicle and cause damage.

Worked way better than the chains (Titan chain HD) I bought initially from etrailer. I have a 2021 F150 Platinum with the 20" tires and the chains would not stay on the treads no matter what I tried. Just tried these ladder cables in Tahoe and they stayed on the tires just fine. The only downside to these over the chains is that they aren't continuous in the tire so when the road is clear (no snow) they ride crazy rough. It's like driving over 1/2" diameter sticks spaced 1 ft apart down the road so it feels pretty bad. But they were effective in helping me drive up and down my access road that was covered in deep snow one day and ice another day, they got the job done and stayed in place. Oh, I also used them with a set of bungee tensioners from etrailer for full disclosure.

I ordered the snow cables for my Subaru 2018 Outback and received them in 3 days! Your customer service is outstanding! I reordered a second set and received them in 4 days. I just had a chance to use them in Atlanta when we had ice and snow. I used only one set on the front and they worked perfectly. i watched the etrailer installation video for a Subaru and it made the easy to install. It took me less then 5 minutes in my garage. (Outside in the snow and ice might take longer). I drove around Atlanta in the ice and snow and the cables performed flawlessly. I plan to buy a set for my daughter. Thanks again!

by:

Really good service (I had to call to make sure they fit my car) and great recommendation on how to install them and the use of tensioners.

by:

Ok for light duty use. Definitely not off road( and they don’t claim off road either). The locking device would be suspect. I haven’t tried them on ice yet but I’ll try and update when I do.
The inner retainer seems to be decent. It pulled stuff in tight and might fare better than plastics in extreme cold.

Terrific! Speedy shipping, well packaged, highly recommended!

  • Recommended Tire Cables for 185/65-15 Tires
The correct set of tire cables for the 185/65-15 tires that you have now is the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains part # PW1026. The Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains part # PW1034 that you are referencing would not even fit on your tires as they are much too big. Trying to attach these cables to your tires would be an immediate risk to both you and others on the road. Unfortunately, the cables do not have the adjustability that chains do so it is not like you can take links out either.

The Glacier Rubber Adjusters part # PW100 are also recommended for either set. I have attached a review video of these cables for you as well.
