Note: Always replace your struts in pairs, where applicable. Most lids, covers, or hatches have a strut on each side. Failure to replace both struts can result in a warped or damaged hinge.
Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your tool box lid, bed cover, or boat hatch stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your lid to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.
How to Find the Right Gas Strut for Your Application
Determining which gas strut is right for your application is easy. All you need to do is remove your worn-out strut and locate the force printed on the side of the tube:
Then, pull the rod out so it's fully extended and take the following measurements:

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com, and today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Universal Lift Support. Now, this is going to replace one worn or damaged ball-and-socket gas strut for your truck cover, your boat hatch, toolbox, and more. The dampening technology provides smooth operation that eliminates bouncing or jumping, so this is going to ensure frictionless movement in all weather conditions. This arm extends to hold your lid or your hatch open and then gently compresses while closing, and the 10 millimeter nylon ball-and-socket connectors are going to install directly to your original existing equipment manufacturer fittings. The nitride-coated steel shaft is corrosion resistant for long lasting performance. Now, you are going to get one lift support, and let me give you a measurement of that ended length.
I'm gonna be measuring center of socket to center of socket, and as you can see, we're sitting right at 23 inches on that extended length. The compressed length will be 13 inches, and the stroke will be 10 inches, and the compression in force pounds is gonna 107 to 117 pounds, and this does have a limited lifetime warranty. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today, I do hope it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me..

If your tool box lid, bed cover, or boat hatch keeps closing when you need it to stay open, it's time to change your strut. Replace it with this universal fit gas strut and make your lid operate like new again. Quick, tool-free installation. These worked fine during warm weather, however, when it got cold they quit working and would not hold nor lift the glass lid. These have been replaced with factory units.
just took longer then expected .
So far so good. We will see if they last another winter here in Colorado. The struts we have had in the past seem to fail in the winter time.
They worked perfect. Glad I made the purchase at etrailer
