TOW-PRO LIBERTY VS. TOW-PRO ELITE - A TOW COMPARISON
*This article is property of and was originally featured on REDARC. It has been repurposed with permission for use by etrailer.com.Over the years, electric trailer brake controllers have evolved. Where they were once clunky boxes mounted in the perfect place to knock your knee on, they are now smart, sleek systems hidden away under the dash. Now, REDARC is excited to announce the release of the next generation of their award-winning electric trailer brake controller: the Tow-Pro Liberty. Not only has the look evolved, but so has the technology, and with this new model comes the question: which brake controller is for me? With two different models available, the Tow-Pro Liberty and the Tow-Pro Elite, choosing the model that perfectly suits your applications can be difficult. Fortunately, we’re here to ‘brake’ it down for you. When driving in most states and provinces an electric trailer brake controller is legally required if you’re towing 3,000 lbs or more. This means that if you’re looking to haul or tow your boat, camper trailer, car trailer, or even livestock trailer, you’re probably going to need an electric trailer brake controller.
Why choose Tow-Pro?
Both the Tow-Pro Elite and the Tow-Pro Liberty share some features that are hallmarks of the range. Designed to reduce the safety concerns around traditional knee-knockers, both models hide the main unit away under the dash. This means less intrusion on driver leg space and less potential interference with lower airbags in newer vehicles.REDARC’s innovative trailer braking technology has been utilized in both models with the ‘Active Calibration’ feature. This means that once fitted to a vehicle, the unit will actively calibrate itself, even if a trailer is not attached. This will save you time before your next trip. Both models are also compatible with electric and electric-over-hydraulic brakes.Easy installation is another key feature of both the Tow-Pro Elite and the Tow-Pro Liberty. The compact remote head can be installed anywhere on the dash, with the main module – the brains of the system – mounted under the dash. This means a sleek factory look without any knee-knocking.Both units also feature a 3-axis accelerometer, meaning they can measure acceleration in any direction, thus be mounted at any angle or orientation, making installation faster and easier. With several vehicle specific Plug & Play accessories for both the Tow- Pro Elite and the Tow-Pro Liberty, such as switch inserts and wiring harnesses, installation on most vehicles is as simple as possible. The Tow-Pro range also features a manual override function via the remote control knob. This allows you to rectify trailer sway quickly and safely, with the tap of a button in case of an emergency. It means that you’ll never put your vehicle, trailer, or family at risk.REDARC products undergo extensive testing, so you can tow with confidence, knowing your gear will endure some of the harshest conditions on the planet.

Whether you’re after an easy-to-use everyday electric trailer brake controller or something that allows you to push the limits of where you can tow, the Tow-Pro range has you covered.
I have the Liberty on my 3rd Gen Tacoma and I absolutely love it. No bulky box banging my knees under the dash, and it works at least as well as the P3 I had in my previous vehicle, maybe better. This weekend I towed a big load of wet oak wood that pushed the limits of my truck and trailer but had no problem stopping, even going down a steep hill.
The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty #RED24FR is the way to go over the Elite #RED44FR as you get the nicer functions of the Elite at a lower price. The Elite has the ability to be the more preferred proportional style of controller as well as a time-delayed…
Brake controllers require a fairly substantial ground which can be achieved by connecting the controller ground to the negative battery terminal. In some situations a chassis ground is fine but if you are running wires through the firewall anyway…
As far as the mounting bracket, you can absolutely screw it directly to the hitch if you want. We do this frequently in our own installs and it will not compromise the strength of the hitch in any way. Now putting a few holes in the hitch does open…
I have a weight distribution recommendation for you, but the Reese Weight Distribution Hitch #66069 is obsolete and no longer available from Reese. If you are looking for a light duty weight distribution system, I recommend the Reese Light Duty…
The best brake controller for your Durango is going to be the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item #RED24FR. This is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer's brakes when your Durango decelerates. The reason the…
The Tekonsha #118286 is the 7-way wiring harness I'd recommend. Your Pilot is already prewired for a brake controller, so once the 7-way is installed as shown in the linked video, you can install a brake controller later using the connector…
The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter item #3070-P you were looking at is confirmed to fit the newer Honda's with the tow packages. In order to use that on your 2022 Honda Pilot without the tow package you will need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness…
The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller part #RED24FR is a confirmed fit for a 2022 Honda Ridgeline when using the Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers part #RED59FR. If you are having issues with the…
The best way to power the interior lights in your trailer is with its own independent battery. You will not want to use the breakaway battery. The breakaway battery is only designed to operate the breakaway and will drain extremely quickly,…
The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller part #RED24FR and the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller part #RED44FR have two primary differences. The Elite can toggle between a user controlled (time delayed) mode for the trailer brakes for…
There is no plug-in wiring adapter for a brake controller on a 2019 Chevy Colorado; most brake controllers such as the Prodigy P3 #90195 will need to be hardwired into the vehicle. For this you can use the Replacement Brake Control Plug-In Harness…
Your 2021 Hyundai Palisade has brake controller wiring that runs from the port under the dash back to the plug that the Curt 7-way kit part #C68JR plugs into. That is why this kit that fits your vehicle does not have any wiring that runs from the…
