Let’s check out some of the best things to do in the St. Louis area.
Saint Louis Gateway Arch

A Gateway to the West and So Much More

St. Louis was dubbed the gateway to the West, and thus the Gateway Arch National Park was constructed. This monument was built to celebrate all the explorers of the 19th Century that pushed westward to develop the United States into what it is today. The arch is 630 feet tall, but there is a lot more to see than just the arch. Inside the park, you can read stories and view exhibits about early pioneers, explorers, rebels, and Native Americans. But there is more to this city than just Gateway National Park.

Riverboat Cruises

St. Louis sits right on the Mississippi River and has certainly been impacted by it. Today, you can take a riverboat cruise up and down the river—getting great views of the Arch. These cruises are a fun way to relax, take in the sights, and experience downtown.

Foodies Should Explore

Did you know St. Louis was one of the places listed on the “Where to Eat in 2022” by Eater.com? This Midwest city is one of the top 15 destinations in the United States for restaurant owners. Rather than creating a culture of eliminating their opponents, St. Louis chefs have become one big happy family that works together to raise the awareness of how great the entire city is for foodies. Famous chefs like Qui Tran—owner of Nudo House and Mai Lee—rub shoulders with new chefs on the scene, making this city a Midwest food heaven. Some local food favorites are toasted ravioli, cracker crust pizza, and St. Louis-style barbecue ribs. For dessert, don’t miss out on Ted Drewes Frozen Custard or some Gooey Butter Cake found in pastry shops all over St. Louis. One of the best places to get one of these local favorites—Gooey Butter Cake—is actually at a coffee shop. Park Avenue Coffee Roasters offers over 70 seasonal varieties of Gooey Butter Cake throughout the year.

Wake Up with St. Louis’ Growing Coffee Scene

After mentioning Park Avenue Coffee Roasters, we need to talk about the St. Louis Coffee scene. There are several great coffee shops who are mastering the art of brewing a great cup of coffee and designing craft drinks to help their neighbors—and travelers—wake up. Here are several coffee shops worth checking out in the St. Louis area: Comet Coffee, Blueprint Coffee, and The Mud House Coffee & Kitchen.
Busch Stadium Baseball Park

St. Louisans Love Their Sports

If you want to see what this city is all about, you have to take in a game. During the spring, summer, and—fingers crossed—fall, you can check out the beloved St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. In addition to the Cardinals, this city has the St. Louis Blues NHL team. And in 2023, they’ll have a new MLS team, the St. Louis City Soccer Club. Regardless of the season, you’ll have the chance to see St. Louisans cheer on their team.

St. Louis Is Dog-Friendly

If you are one of the 68% of RVers traveling with a pet, you’ll be glad to know this is a pet-friendly city. With the beautiful dog-friendly parks, dog-friendly restaurants, and some establishments that offer both, you’ll surely be able to include your pup on a day in St. Louis. The Doghaus is St. Louis’ first dog park and sports bar combination. They have an outdoor patio space that is dog-friendly. But what sets them apart is that your pup doesn’t have to lie next to you the entire time. The Doghaus’ outdoor space is completely enclosed, has dog agility equipment, water for the pooches, and toys for them to play with. When you visit this town, don’t forget to check this spot out with your favorite canine.

It is 1,300 acres in size with lakes, streams, and plenty of recreational possibilities. You can find this park about five miles west of downtown.

3. St. Louis Zoo

The St. Louis Zoo has been recognized for its innovative approach to caring for 14,000+ animals. And get this—the general admission to the St. Louis zoo is free! This is one of the few free zoos in the United States, and an instance where you get way more than you pay for. With that being said, there are some attractions that cost. And to get access to everything the zoo has to offer, you can purchase the Adventure Pass for $14.95—which is still a great bargain for a full day at the zoo.

4. St. Louis Aquarium

Another incredible family-friendly activity is the 120,000-sq-ft St. Louis Aquarium located in the St. Louis Union Station. This aquarium has six separate sections—from the river experience to the depths of the oceans. If you visit with your family, you should expect a 1-3 hour visit.
