For determining the proper size Solera Slider you need, to measure the total width of your slide room from the outside including the flange then add a minimum of 5" (2-1/2" each for the left/right side overhang). I would absolutely use a weight distribution system when towing the 2001 Forest River Shamrock M-18 with your 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. The reason for this is because the weight of the trailer is more than half of your tow vehicle's weight which is the rule for weight distribution. The 1-2" of drop you had while coupled may not seem like a big deal but this can really have detrimental effects on braking, stability, and is most likely causing the porpoising feeling you described.

I checked with Thule and while they have the 2-bike hanging style trunk rack as a fit for your 2016 BMW 2-Series they do not list the platform style. The platform version is pretty heavy and the older versions occasionally dented vehicles so they are very cautious about listing it as a fit for your vehicles.

We always recommend using a trailer hitch with a 2" receiver over the 1-1/4" size because they have higher weight ratings and because you can use a wider variety of bike racks. First thing we gotta do is identify the roof vent lid you need. Which to do that you need to look at the hinge setup of the vent and the shape of the lid. I attached a picture that has a few different common styles. If you can check the picture out and compare to the vent assembly on your trailer we can determine what you need and from there determine the install.

If your 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 has a factory hitch that has an opening that measures 2-1/2 inch by 2-1/2 inches the Curt hitch extender part # C45048 will simply just slide into it.
