Exceeding the weight rating of the vehicle or hitch could cause engine damage, transmission damage, hitch failure and the hitch could rip out of the frame of the vehicle.
The important thing to remember is that the Curt trailer hitch # 13465 is rated for 3,500 pounds. If the vehicle is rated lower you go by the lower rating. You would not want to go beyond the capacity specified in your vehicle owners manual.

You will want to measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper. The Patriot Hitches Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver Adapter # PH54FR has 3-1/2" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the angled brace for the shank, so you're going to need at least that distance from your bumper to the hitch pin hole.

Even though the vehicle may be capable of towing more, Chrysler/Dodge determines what the Challenger is capable of towing. There can be many deciding factors that lead to a company deciding what the tow capacity should be including, but not limited to, the frame, suspension, engine, and transmission.
