I completely understand your troubles and confusion with leaf springs. First do remember there are different types of spring steels so the thickness of the leaves is not always the best way to judge the weight capacity for the leaf springs. So while you would think a 3/8" thick leaf would be stronger than leaf springs which use 5/16" thick springs that is not always the case depending on the type of spring steel used.
