1,400-lb Capacity. Get better control and a more comfortable ride when off-roading with these helper springs for your front suspension. The tall microcellular urethane springs absorb big bumps and shocks and engage sooner than standard springs.

Features:

  • Off-road helper springs upgrade your vehicle's front suspension for improved control and comfort
    • Absorb big bumps and shocks that can occur when driving over rough terrain
    • Minimize sway for better control when rock crawling
    • Support heavy front-end loads (like winches or aftermarket bumpers) to keep your Jeep level
  • Faster activation - springs are taller so that they engage more quickly than standard helper springs
  • Progressive load control - springs compress according to the weight of your cargo
    • Lighter loads - springs compress easily at first for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride
    • Heavier loads - springs compress by as much as 80 percent for support
  • Durable, high-density microcellular urethane
    • Works in temperatures from -25 F to 200 F
    • Resists damage caused by oils, road salts, and UV rays
  • Minimal lateral expansion - springs expand and compress vertically instead of to the sides so they aren't easily damaged when operating in tight spaces
  • Maintenance-free - no tubing to run or air pressure to monitor like with air springs
  • No-drill bolt-on installation
  • 2 Springs and necessary hardware included
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Weight capacity (at 50-percent compression): 1,400 lbs
    • SumoSprings will not increase your vehicle's weight-carrying capacity
  • Limited lifetime warranty
  • 30-Day satisfaction guarantee

SumoSprings work to improve your vehicle's front suspension. These springs will bear the brunt of the weight for your heavier loads while you are traveling off-road, whether for work or for play, and they will help to absorb the bumps and shocks that can happen on rough roads. The springs work with Jeeps with winches, aftermarket bumpers, and other heavy front-end equipment. They were designed for off-road use.

Safer Off-Roading

Frequent carry of heavy cargo can cause front-end sagging as your OEM suspension system compresses to accommodate it. Your vehicle can also sway if frequently under heavy loads, as well as bottom out, which wears your suspension down. If the weight isn't even, then it jeopardizes your ability to steer and brake. These springs reduce these problems by compressing accordingly with the weight of your cargo and helping support and distribute the weight. SumoSprings make driving heavier loads more comfortable for the long haul, and they give the control back to drivers when sway is minimized. The progressive load control works differently, depending on whether you are carrying a lighter load or a heavier load. If you are carrying a lighter load, then the springs will initially compress easily and smoothly. This will create a soft engagement for the springs and a much less bumpy ride for you. If you are carrying an extreme or heavy load, then the springs will help to support your vehicle's suspension by compressing up to 80 percent.

Faster Activation

These off-road helper springs have a taller rubber jounce than standard helper springs and are effective off-road when other springs are not. They engage more quickly, so you can travel over rocky or rough terrain safely and comfortably.

Durability

Made in the USA, these springs are constructed from durable microcellular urethane material, which withstand the elements. SumoSprings resist any damage caused by oils, road salts, and UV rays, so you don't have to worry about them failing to do their job while you are traveling on rough road conditions. They work in a variety of temperatures, from -25 F to as high as 200 F

No-Drill Installation

The kit is designed to install easily above your existing front axle factory springs. No drilling is necessary. The springs have the ability to operate in tight, closed-in spaces. They can expand and compress vertically without taking up any room on the sides. Unlike air springs or air bags, you don't need to maintain SumoSprings. The springs will never leak, and you don't need to run the tubing or monitor the air pressure.

Video Transcript for SuperSprings SumoSprings Solo Front Axle Helper Springs Review

All right, I'm Matt with etrailer. Today we're gonna be talking about our SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs on our Front Axle. Now, this is gonna be a great suspension enhancement as opposed to what comes standard on your Jeep. Now, this is gonna give you more stability and will be great for going off-roading, or if you have a heavy load on the front of your Jeep. Now, you can get this as two different kits. One is just a standard, or one with a two inch spacer.

That's just gonna be put on top of here. And that's just gonna be for if you have a lift kit installed on your vehicle, and you need that extra space so it's not sitting up too high and not making contact at all. And as for the material, on top, we're gonna have this steel with a black powder coat finish to it, so it's gonna be resistant to rusting. And for the spring itself, it's gonna be made from a microcellular urethane. And what that's gonna do is help it be more resistant to anything on the road like salts, oils, or anything else like that.

And with the Jeep being very customizable, whether you're adding winches, or new bumpers to the front of it, this is gonna be able to stand up to that with a weight capacity of up to 1400 pounds. Now, you're probably never gonna reach that amount, that's just what this is rated for so you know it's gonna be able to stand up to whatever you throw at it. Now that we've got it installed, we're gonna take it out on the test course to see how it performs, as opposed when we took it out earlier without them on. Now, looking at how it's gonna perform. As you can see here, when we had our jounce bumpers on, there was a lot more bumps, and there was a lot more travel between our axle making contact with it.

And when it did, it was a lot more jarring. Now, with our SumoSprings, they're a lot closer. And when we do get that initial touch, it doesn't look like it's very hard. It's very soft. And then once we get past that first 20%, that's when we start to get more of these larger bumps, and we need to see more of a gradual transition.

And it's applying more pressure as we're driving. And as just a look at our SumoSprings on our Front Axle.

I am sure these would have helped the Gladiators without the factory Fox hydraulic bump stops but in my case I returned my purchase I opted not to replace my Fox hydraulic bump stops in the Mojave.

SumoSprings for the front end, the provided bolts are the exact size of the holes in the frame. Had to keep forcing them till it started to thread then use plyers to hold it in place. Very tough to get it but it went it. Have a 2006 Pleasure Way Dodge Sprinter 2500 RV Class B.

I put these on my 2017 2 door jeep wranger. I have factory springs no lift. I put on aftermarket front bumper with wench, rear bumper, roof rack. With all the other gear in the jeep, frig, and all camping gear, and plans on putting on a rooftop tent. The ride was a harsh because off all the extra weight, so i thought i would give it a try. I first got air bags for the rear and they worked great, improving the ride, but now the front was still harsh. So i thought i would try the sumosprings. All i can say about the sumosprings is that there awesome. I can now go over bumps on dirt roads, paved roads, train tracks, and it dosnt beat the crap out of me. Jeep feels like its happy.

Very easy installation in about 20 minutes. Very ingenious concept as opposed to bolt on leaf style helper springs

by:

I installed Sumo Springs on our 06 Xterra right after we bought our Casita 17' trailer. The back of the X squatted a bit more than I liked. I had also noticed before some tendency to bottom out if the car was full of people and stuff. These ingenious devices are a perfect solution for me! They are about 3/4" clear of being engaged with the axle when unloaded, so the ride is not overly affected, but progressively take up some of the weight when the back end starts coming down with load. It now sits very nicely with the trailer connected, no weight distributing hitch and stuff in the back, and no more bottoming. We've put a good number of miles on the X in the last year, towing and not towing, and they are still doing the job.

I should note, the back of my Xterra is lifted about an inch with AAL springs. If that were not the case, the Sumo Springs would be engaged all the time. That will vary with vehicle.

I will also note that they are non-adjustable, unlike airbags. I kinda like that, I didn't want to mess with adjusting air pressure and such. But once they do start kicking in as one or both wheels travel, they do stiffen it up quite a bit. I mean, there's no way around that; you can't take load without stiffening the suspension. As such I think they inhibit upward axle articulation a bit when 4-wheeling, but for us that's not a big deal. Since they do not connect to the axle, they don't affect downward articulation at all.

The pics are shortly after installation, one with the car unloaded, and two with trailer and gear loaded up.

I believe it’s going to be a great addition to my truck when pulling our RV. Looking forward to a smoother, more even ride. I left the 2x4 blocks in overnig8ht and drove around to ensure a good seat for the springs.

by:

I originally purchased the yellow sumo for additional support when hauling a small trailer or taking trash to the dump so I wouldn’t strain the vehicles suspension that I just replaced . I also never like to see a truck squat . Yellows were too stiff when unloaded so I got these blues sumo and it was a great decision . The ride type is back to original “comfortable” and the sumo still provides great handling when cornering reducing body sway / shock absorbing bumps. A good investment !

by:

Gave it 5 because of ease of install - note they use SAE threads 9/16, truck frame and oem is metric 15mm wrench. Makes no difference but don't use oem nuts on spring. I installed all shims supplied and this left about 3/4" gap so hoing its the best for my needs. Easy to reduce if needed.

by:

These were shipped to me mid-trip so I had a good chance to do a before and after with same loads/ same roads for 3100 miles. They were easy to install (in my daughters driveway) in about an hour with one reluctant bolt in the original bump stop. I did not install the hard spacer, I figured I’d add it later if needed. I was able to do the install w/o jacking up the whole truck using a 1 1/2 ton jack under the hitch receiver w/ a jackstand next to it. I needed just a few inches as there’s lots of room under the stock height truck (I was lying on a piece of cardboard). The helper springs didn’t quite touch the axle when the jack was removed. When I first drove it in town with the Sumo’s on it they were not really noticeable. When loaded up with my 22’ Livin’ Lite Axxess trailer (4300lbs with 650lb hitch weight) the rear end would squish into the overload springs a good 3/4” but the truck was about level w/o rear end sag.
Driving home over many of the same roads I noticed it was better over railroad crossings and rhythmic bumps on the highway that previously pitched it fore and aft. The trucks manners were much better overall during big hits (like hitting a curb- yup) and pulling off-highway. The trailer is low so it doesn’t go very far off road so I can’t report on that.
Overall for ease of ordering, of install, simple usage w/o need of airlines and effective control of the rearend of the truck and the trailer I feel they deserve the 5 stars.

I bought and installed the 1000lb Sumo Solo springs to help alleviate rear end squat on my 2024 GMC Canyon Denali when pulling my boat. My boat trailer has a long mono tongue with no weight distribution installed. The boat weighs in at about 5500lbs, the truck fender lip measures 38” high unloaded, once I dropped the hitch down on the ball and the Sumos picked up the load, the fenders measured 36.25” equating to an inch and 3/4 squat. Empty the Sumos have an apx gap of 7/8” above the frame rails. The Sumos were recommended over the Timbrens for my situation of infrequent towing with this truck and to maintain the best ride possible when not towing. So far my ride is virtually unchanged when empty and feels controlled when towing. Installation is straight forward but the instructions could be a little clearer with a diagram showing the intended location of the springs. Luckily an etrailer customer had already done the install and provided some pics so there was no question. I chose to remove the tires to have good access and I’d do it again this way. I supported the truck with a jack stand under the receiver. IMHO the proper method to locate the over frame upper clamp brackets is to push the forward clamp as far forward until it contacts the bed stiffener and you’ll be in the correct location then let all the hardware hang to position itself, tighten as required and enjoy.

by:

These Sumo Springs were easy to install, even for a 70 year old guy. I tow a 7,000lb camper and even tho I have a nice WDH I still had som sag on my Tundra. These helped level it out when towing and got rid of “some” of the bounce. They were really a godsend when I overloaded the bed with about 2,000lbs of pavers. That weight squished the Sumos significantly but the truck drove and rode great. Better and less expensive than air bags.

by:

The SumoSprings Solo came to the RV Resort today. I installed them on my Titan SV today in less than an hour. Only drove 10 miles with them and they are what I was looking for. In my opinion it was a needed upgrade and thumbs up!

by:

Big difference in pulling the rv. I have about 545 lbs of Tongue weight. The sumo springs help with the swaying. Thanks again.

by:

I have had these on my Jeep Gladiator for over a year now and I still like them. Sumo Springs really help with sag when towing my Scamp camper trailer and when the truck bed is loaded with stuff. When it is cold outside they are stiffer and I can feel when they hit the stops on hard bumps. Sumo Springs are a very easy overload spring option with factory lift.

by:

While these worked great for the first few months and helped level the load, they have now become deformed and squished out of shape permanently. We have a slide in camper that is on the truck for only for trips otherwise the truck is unloaded and off the bumps. I did not expect them to deform so much, and so easily after only a year of use.

by:

Works great on 2020 ford ranger. Left out the extra spacer because I don't want it riding on the leaf spring all the time. This gave it almost an inch clearance before the sumo touches and starts to help. That is what I wanted to not have it as stiff initially offroad, etc.

by:

Fairly simple to put on but need to work around the brake lines and bed cross beams. I haven’t tried it yet with weight. I have enclose pic of drivers side. Maybe can’t tell from the pic but there is space and flexibility around the lines around bolt.

by:

Works great when I tow my 11,000lb. 5th wheel camper with 1800lb. hitch weight. A bit stiff for everyday driving and hauling of my enclosed utv/snowmobile trailer, so I remove themin the fall.

by:

Great upgrade from the oem jounce. Easy to install with 2 people but follow the install video and use a 1/2" deep socket with a long extension. Took about 30 minutes.

by:

Straight forward, simple, replacement for OEM springs. These springs make contact with the lower arms all the time and definitely help dampen the bounce effect from a heavier steel bumper. Any rolling effect from uneven roadways and turning is also reduced, it feels the vehicle is more stable. For my situation, this is the first step to take before considering replacing shocks, etc., and is very economical. I'll give it more time, but I believe this is all I'll need to do. Thanks etrailer! Quick shipping!

We have front suspension enhancement that does fit your 2016 Jeep Wrangler and is intended for off-road applications like I can see in your picture, but we don't have any air bag style kits.
