Video Transcript for Torklift Rear Frame Mounted Camper Tie-Downs Installation - 2008 Dodge Ram Pickup

Today in our 2008 Dodge Ram 3500, we'll be installing the TorkLift custom frame-mounted Tie-downs for the rear. Part #TLD3109. These tie-downs provide an attachment point at the rear of your truck for securing your bed-mounted camper. The frame mounted design ensures excellent handling, securing your camper's truck to the frame of the vehicle instead of the bed. Which distributes the weight to keep your camper from being too top heavy while driving down the road. As you see here, here's the driver's side components of your camper tie-downs.

You'll have the mounting bracket, your arm which you will secure your camper to, and the hardware that comes with the kit. As you see, there's only 1 bolt and block, 2 washers, a lock washer, and a nut. All the other attachment points we will be reusing hardware that's already on the truck. So, it's a really easy, simple installation. As you see here, on the passenger's side, we already have it installed. It's mounted to the frame nice, secure mounting locations.

Not going to go anywhere. You see the arm sticks out. It's adjustable. You have 2 options. Since this is a dually, we're going to probably use it on the farther out attachment point.

That way we can get our camper onto the arm. When you're not in use, just go ahead and just undo the pin and clip. Slide the arm out. While you're not hauling your camper down the road, it keeps it nice, tucked, up and underneath. You can't really see it underneath the vehicle which is a nice feature. When you're ready to tow your camper, go ahead and slide the arm in reinstall the pin and clip.

Secure your camper to the tie-down. You're ready to hit the road. To begin our install here on the driver's side, we'll go ahead and spray down the 4 attachment points that are already on the vehicle with some penetrating lubricant. As you see right here, we'll be using this attachment point, this one, this one, and this one. We will have to remove those bolts and then reinstall them with the bracket in-between the frame and the bumper bracket right here. So we'll go ahead and spray those down with some lubricant to get these broke loose and out. If you have a older vehicle, these may be a little tough. So, let that sit on there for a couple of minutes. And then these two, we will loosen so we can move this bracket around to get our camper tie-down bracket into place. So, we'll go ahead and spray these down with some spay lubricant also to help ease removal. First, we'll start with removing these 2 bolts. You use a 15mm socket. However, they recommend using a breaker bar to get them loose by hand first before you put a impact gun on it. We go ahead and save this hardware, as we will be reusing it. All right, we're going to go ahead and loosen up these two. You don't want to take the nuts completely off, but you want to have them pretty loose. And if the nut does come off, just thread it on hand tight. Now, go ahead and remove these two larger bolts. You'll be using 21mm socket for that. Now, for this one, there is a handle nut on the other side that this is attached to. The handle nut will probably spin around until it touches itself. Then, it will allow you to remove the bolt the rest of the way. Go ahead and save the handle nut because you will have to reinstall it. And you see this bracket is now loose Which is what you want because now, the camper tie down will actually go between these two. With it loose, it will be a lot easier to get your hardware into place. Back into those locations while holding the bracket up there. Now, go ahead and take our bracket here for the driver's side. Slide it up there in-between these 2 locations. I find it easier, since this location at the top is not being sandwiched in between here. If you'll go ahead and get that one started first, it'll hold your bracket up there in place as you get the other one's started. Now, we'll go ahead and install our other larger bolt. You'll want to move this bracket over a bit and get them lined up. Until you can get it pushed all the way through. And again, that will help hold everything into position also, while you get your other 2 lower bolts into place. Now, go ahead and take the smaller bolt here. You have to lift up the bracket up a little bit so you can get the holes lined up. Go ahead and reinstall our other bolt right here. Now that we have these 4 bolts in there hand tight, we'll go ahead and tighten them down a little bit. Which attaches the bracket to the frame. And for this one, as I said earlier, we had a handle nut. Go ahead and hold that into place. See they're threaded on. Watch out as one starts spinning, you don't want to get your hand caught in there. So once that catches against the hitch, go ahead and tighten that down. That'll put everything into place. Our final attachment point for our tie-downs will be right here. This oval hole lines up with the the hole in the actual bracket. That will get the 1/2" by 2" hex bolt and block that comes with the kit. That will get fed through there. Then on the inside, it'll get 2 flat washers, a lock washer, and a nut. So put our 2 flat washers into place, a lock washer, and our nut. Go ahead and get that hand tight. All right, now that we have all our hardware into place, we'll go ahead and tighten it down and torque it to the specifications as indicated in the instructions. And finally, we'll go ahead and tighten and torque this bolt here. Now that we have the bracket tightened and torqued, you'll see it's nice and secure to the frame. We can go ahead and take our arm. Slide it in position. We'll line up the holes. Take your pin and clip, slide it through and secure it. That's going to be nice secure mounting point for your camper in the bed of your truck. Now with our tie-down arms into our brackets, we're ready to load our camper up and hit the road.
