Hey everyone, Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the stake pocket step from Brophy. If you've got a flatbed truck or trailer with stake pockets and you need a way to make it a little easier to just step up into the trailer or the truck, then this can give you that way. Let's check it out. Right out of the box it comes with everything you need to work with a 3 1/2 inch stake pocket. So just take it, drop it down through your desired location.
It sits pretty flat with the top deck of the trailer and then comes with a pin and clip to keep it secured in so you don't have to worry about it popping up back through that stake pocket, that'll pin it in. Now, when it's like this, from the top deck of your trailer to the step, it's gonna be a 20 inch drop. So it definitely helps out making it a little easier to reach. Obviously on here we don't have any handholds to make our step up into the trailer easier but at the very least it makes that a manageable step and we can use our hands to assist whenever we're getting up in. There's this grippy tape on the top that is really aggressive so it's gonna keep you from slipping and it does have a 300 pound capacity.
Now there is a little bit of room for movement in there but when you step on it, it definitely feels solid and the weight of you stepping on it helps to stabilize a little bit. So I'm not concerned about any slipping there either. It does have a black powder coat on there to help with rust and corrosion over time but ours arrived already scratched up just out of the box which is a little bit disappointing. And when looking at what's there, it seems like a very thin powder coat. And if I scratch with my fingernail around those affected areas more of that powder coat seems to scratch off a little more easily than I would want it to.
So I think that's just a matter of time before this thing gets scuffed up and it gets exposed to the elements. So I wouldn't count on that powder coat just lasting forever and being perfect. Aside from the poor powder coat, I do really like it. It does exactly what it needs to do. It provides a stable step.
And it cuts down that distance we have to get up to get into our trailer down by quite a bit. Not to mention it's pretty low profile, doesn't add much height, and doesn't stick out to the side more than an inch or two. So if you're looking for something to be out of your way, maybe not an issue if you're walking by and worried about hitting your shins on it but still be functional to help get into your truck or trailer, then I think this would definitely fit the bill. Thanks for watching.
