Video Transcript for Reviewing the Lets Go Aero Full Nelson Truck Bed Mount Bike Rack

How's it going, neighbors This is Ed here with etrailer.com. And we're taking a look at the Lets Go Aero Full Nelson Expandable 2-Bike Carrier for your pickup. You can expand your carrier by adding additional SpinWings and have the capacity up to six bikes. It is 35 pounds per bike, so you will be limited if you're thinking about heavier e-bikes. But average pedal bikes, you're gonna be well within the capacity, and it's gonna allow you to change the configuration if you just have the single set for the two. One of the cool features about the Full Nelson is the fact that you can customize how you have your bikes on the back of your bed.

The way that you see here, we actually have it on the center platform and we have it sideways. And that's gonna allow you to have your bikes inside of the bed instead of hanging off the side. And unlike your tailgate pads that you would use to carry bikes, this is gonna allow you to get six bikes on the bed of your truck without taking up any space in your bed. (truck system beeping) (tailgate clicking) So as you can see, you still have room for totes, coolers, what have you, whatever you wanna bring along with your journey, and still have six bikes taking up the negative space on top of your bed. Really cool feature about the Full Nelson is the fact that it is a wheel-mounted bike carrier.

So you're gonna actually support your bike from the wheels itself instead of making contact with the frame. Only place that I would say that I noticed as far as contact would be along the seat post and the handlebars. With this configuration, it is kind of tight, I had to make some adjustments for the seats and the handles to get everything up there. The frame of your bike doesn't make any contact with the carrier itself, anywhere where you're supporting the weight of the bike. So you can see right here at the top of your wheel, you're making contact.

And on the inside of the carrier, right between the spokes, you can see you have a padded section, but there's nowhere where the bike's weight is on the frame at all. As far as security, you have an included cable lock as well as eye loops that you can thread that cable through on the carrier. And underneath on the Full Nelson itself, you can run it through here, and that's gonna secure everything to the bed of the truck. The top cradle is kind of a hook where your wheel sits on, and you're gonna have your strap reach around the top. Down here is your lower peg that's gonna help stabilize your bike, and you're gonna have another strap.

And the strap itself is only gonna support up to 2 3/4 inch width tires. So if you have anything fatter than that, it's not gonna necessarily work with this carrier. And when you finally get to the trails or the park or wherever you're taking your bikes, it's just that easy as just removing your straps and pulling your bike down. Now, if you're someone that's a little vertically challenged, you know, you may need some assistance. It may not be the best option if it's just gonna be you. However, it's pretty accessible to make this work. We have the Full Nelson on our Chevy 1500, but if you wanted to use it on a mid-size pickup as well, you can. You just wanna bear in mind that your bracket is gonna hang over a little bit over the side of your bed. So just something to be aware of. The Full Nelson will work with some tonneau covers that have tracks, you just have to add the Accessory Tonneau Cover Kit. But that'll allow you to have up to six bikes on top of your tonneau cover while still having everything safe and concealed inside. So that's kind of a cool feature for the carrier. With our bikes removed, you can get a better look at our mounting system and the pads. So the mounting system itself is kinda cool, because it's just these knobs where you're gonna be able to adjust for the size and height of your wheel and height of your bike, so that you can dial it in to fit your ride the way you need it. And these pads you can kinda feel are nice and supple, really tight. It doesn't feel like it's gonna break down, like some foams feel real squishy. It's really dense, so that feels great. Overall, I'd say the build quality, considering the cost of it, is pretty solid. As you can see, it is a lot of motion on the carrier itself. But once it's secured down and you have your bikes on it, you can take a look at our GoPro footage and see that it's nice and sturdy. And I don't have any concerns of, you know, losing my bike with it being attached. The Full Nelson is tool-free, so you can set it up with just your bare hands right out the box. You have this handle here. It kinda reminds me of like a bench vice that you had in shop class back in the day. And you kinda see that it does require a little bit of patience to get this bolt out. But you gotta keep in mind that this is what's securing it to the crossbar, so you would want it to be threaded in pretty deeply. (pin clanking) Now that you got your pin out, you're just gonna remove your bracket. And now, you can hit the streets without having your bike carrier on the back of your truck. Our crossbar is secured with a tool-free hardware also. You're gonna have a U-bolt with these eye loops that just bolt right onto it with the washer. And you can just fasten it down. And not only does it secure the crossbar, but it does give you, you know, another usable tie-down point. So you can set this up out the box, only using your bare hands and a tape measure, just to make sure you have good spacing. Here's a closer look at your bracket that goes underneath your bed rail. You have a rubberized coating that's gonna protect the finish underneath. And it's powder coated steel, so that's gonna hold up against the elements and the abuse of being in the bed of a truck. You also have a little bit of rubberized coating on top of your U-bolt to keep your powder coat looking nice on top of your Full Nelson. Overall, the Full Nelson is a great option to get six bikes on the road while maintaining a free cargo area in the back of your bed. If the cargo space isn't a huge factor for transporting your bikes, the Yakima GateKeeper is a truck bed pad that carries six bikes. That's an option, but you're gonna lose about half of your bed as well as access to your tailgate while you're loaded up. If you're looking for a hitch-mounted option, the Yakima HangOver is a great option, because it takes six bikes, but you're gonna have a whole bulky item on the back of your truck, and it may affect, you know, your vision on the back for your rear view. If you have a track system in your pickup, the Half Nelson is gonna allow you to carry two bikes in the same fashion as far as the wheel-mounted support, but works with your OEM track. If you are looking to carry two bikes, you're ready to go right out the box. If you're wanting to go to that full six bike capacity, you're gonna need to add in two SpinWings to your cart in order to be ready to go and move all six of your bikes right out the gate. Again, this is Ed with etrailer.com, taking a look at the Lets Go Aero Full Nelson Expandable 2-Bike Carrier. Have a great day.
