Video Transcript for Yakima JetStream Crossbars Installation - 2016 Acura MDX

Speaker 1: Today in our 2016 Acura MDX, we'll be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Yakima roof rack system. This is going to consist of part numbers Y00426, those are going to be our Yakima JetStream crossbars, part number Y00146, those are our BaseLine towers, and part numbers Y06150, and Y06105. Those will be our BaseClip fit kits for our Acura MDX.The Yakima roof rack system is a great solution for carrying your vehicle accessories on your vehicle's naked roof, whether those are bike racks, cargo baskets, or ski and snowboard carriers. The Yakima JetStream crossbars are an aerodynamic crossbar that's going to help to reduce wind noise and drag.If we remove our end cap, you'll see our weather strip on the inside. This can easily be pushed down and used with channel-mounted accessories. So you don't have to worry about taking our weather strip out, or cutting it down.

Our Yakima BaseLine towers have a option to knock out this plastic portion here, and insert the same key system lock cores. That's going to allow us to prevent theft and tampering. When we remove our cover, you can see all the pieces that we need to use, and we have an included tool that's going to help to work down all of our bolts. The Yakima fit kit is going to be made specifically for our vehicle, which will give it a nice secure fit. It's also going to have rubber on any portion that might touch our vehicle, which will help to prevent scratches or abrasions. These bars measure 60 inches long, and the entire system has a 165-pound weight capacity, and a limited lifetime warranty. Now that we've gone over some features, we're going to show you how to get this installed.

I've gone ahead and put together one half of our crossbar. We're going to show you how to put together the rest, but everything you see here on our table is what's included. We're going to have our two covers for our BaseLine towers. We've got our BaseLine tower here. We've got our fit kit. This is going to be the two clamps that we'll use, the pad that we use for our fit kit as well, our end cap cover for our crossbar, our adapters for our crossbar, our included torque tool, and we've provided our own flat tape measure. To start off, we'll take our BaseLine tower.

We're going to take the plastic portion of our adapter, and we're going to secure that end to the top of our tower. That will snap right in. You want to make sure you hear those clicks. That's when we know we have it secure. We'll next take the metal portion.

We're going to place it right in the center. Holding it in place, we're going to flip our tower over.Inside you'll see two bolts. We're going to go for the one further back here. We'll take our included tool, and start to tighten that down. We want to make sure that the metal portion is even with the two plastic pieces on the top. The last thing we do before we actually load up our tower is we're going to take our pad, making sure that our arrow faces out, and we're going to snap it onto our tower. Again, you'll hear those audible clicks. Now, we've gone ahead and removed the weather strip on the underside of our crossbar. We want to remove this, and we can cut it down, and fit it in between our towers and on the outside edge between our towers and our crossbar end caps. That's going to help to reduce wind noise and drag, and any kind of whistling sound that might happen, but for demonstration purposes today, we're not going to use that.To load our tower onto our crossbar, we're going to line up the bottom portion that we installed into our channel here at the bottom. Now, you may need to loosen up that piece in the center, just slide our tower onto our crossbar, and we're going to set this at 42 and 3/8 inches. With that in place, we'll take our tool and tighten that down. Now we're ready to load this up onto our vehicle. We'll take our crossbar. We're going to set it on our roof. We'll just try and set it as evenly as possible. Now we'll take our crossbar end cap, and place that on, and we can measure out our crossbar spread. We'll measure out our crossbar spread. It'll be from the center of our front tower to the center of our back. That's going to be 32 inches. We do want to make sure that we move our crossbar evenly on each side. With that in place, we'll open up our doors. We want to lift up the cover here. We're going to insert our clamp, and make sure it attaches to our long bolt on the inside. We can start to tighten that down using our included tool, tightening up our bolt. You just want to make sure that that sits on our doorjamb, and we'll do the same thing to the other side.Once we hear the click of our tool, we'll know we have enough torque behind our bolt. Ready to close up our doors. Close up the gray cover here, and place on our tower covers. We'll fit on our bottom hooks first, and click it into place. Now we're ready to load up our accessories and hit the road. That's going to be our completed look at the Yakima roof rack system for our 2016 Acura MDX.

One year later and everything works well. I had a problem early on where the rubber protection for one of the j clips from the base towers came off. Contacted etrailer and they sent me a whole new assembly direct from Yakima. Thanks for the prompt response and service!

by:

I have truly enjoyed this system. It allows our family of five plus our dog to stretch out in the car while our gear is secured on the roof. It takes a bit to mount it but I want it secure and it does fine with a roof box at interstate speeds. I absolutely recommend this system.

by:

Work exactly as they should and hold everything securely to my vehicle without interfering with the car’s normal operation. etrailer had best prices based on my research.

by:

Do not trust their timelines and expect to be interrogated by customer service if you report missing items. Expect to wait a week for a response from customer service only to be told your missing items are still 6 months out.

I love this product and do business with you guys because of unparalleled service. You tutorial and explanation of the product has definitely prepared me for effective use!

I purchased clips that were stated as being compatible with our 2010 Chevrolet Impala. The front clips fit well, however the rear clips do not.

From start to finish, the folks at etrailer -- and I spoke to several people there, so it was a consistent corporate vibe -- were fantastic to deal with.

There were delays in getting my product that were on the supplier side and out of eTrailer's control, yet etrailer folks kept me up to date and also worked on a customized solution.

My goal was to be able to carry my surfboard on the roof of our 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe to the beach more than 3 hours away. But the particular model we had had no existing racks, no recessed areas, nothing to fix racks to. Not even the dealer had a solution. I was sh*t out of luck.

But etrailer hooked me up. The racks did take me a while to put on, but most of that time was fine tuning to reduce “hum” while driving. I’m very happy with them.

Thanks to etrailer, I have gone surfing and can go surfing whenever I'd like to.

I have a 10th gen Civic sedan and I was dying to get the perfect roof rack set for my car. At the time of my purchase there was not many visuals of what the rack system looked like on this car.

I purchased the:

•Yakima 50in Jetstream crossbars
•Yakima baseline towers
•bc182 & bc183 clips
•Yakima 46in fairing

Overall I love how it looks on my car! During This COVID pandemic I have been camping more, and this is the perfect foundation! First off, the 46in fairing is the perfect fit for the 10th gen civic! Wind noise is low also with the help of the aerodynamic crossbars. My main concern was the fuel efficiency. On long road trips I still average 38-40 mpg with the rack on. My daily commutes I average 34 mpg without Econ on.

by:

Love my Yakima roof rack!! It exceeds my expectations.great product. Also thank etrailer for the tec support! great staff always there to help thanks again!!

Hyundai Sonata - glass pano roof. These items have been on for about 1-year. So happy with the set up. I’ve take a road bike and a mountain bike on 500+ mile trips. The mounts do an excellent job.

by:

Works perfectly on my 2023 Chevy Silverado. The rubber pads are soft enough to prevent scratches, yet firm enough to support the force of being cranked down on the roof. They fit perfectly in the ridge near the edges of the rough.

by:

I ordered the Yakima "aero" bars , baseline towers, and BaseClip kits for my 2019 Honda Civic 5 door. While expensive the quality is excellent and it was a pleasure to assemble such a high quality and precision engineered product. It fits perfectly on my new car and the "aero" bars are quiet even at freeway speeds. Highly recommended.

by:

Overall these are a great product and much needed. I had a Tiguan with the side rails but needed cross rails for my gear. When I got my Jetta I wanted to keep my Yakima cross rails so I needed the Towers. They work great and fit my car well. I took them off recently after having them on for a year for re-fitment.

by:

Exactly what I need, and good Track information. Thank you!

by:

The installation was super easy, and despite a long time stuck in shipping the delivery itself was extremely fast, and the package arrived in spotless condition. The manuals were very easy to follow, and the end result is absolutely amazing. They provided a nice, flush finish and hold the racks down tight.

The Yakima products are doing great. Just got home yesterday from a 18 day trip using them in Michigan's upper peninsula. Love them. Great products. Thanks again.

  • Recommended Roof Rack for a 2023 Honda Passport With Bare Roof
Yes, there is a way to add a roof rack to your 2023 Honda Pilot even though you do not have the side rails, and the best option is from Yakima, consisting of the Crossbars # Y36UV, Fit Kit # Y06152 and Fit Kit # Y06163. This rack has a flush design which means the crossbars do not extend past the mounting feet for a great look. This aero bar roof rack system has a 165 lbs capacity. The strips in the top channels dramatically reduce drag and wind noise.

  • Carrying 4 Bikes on A 2010 Honda Accord
There are only Class I Hitches available for the 2010 Honda Accord. The hitch manufacturers do testing for safety and have found that the 2010 Accord can only safely carry up to 200 pounds of tongue weight. The reason that only two bikes are recommended, on a hitch mounted bike rack, for Class I hitches is that the added torque applied to the hitch and vehicle frame will be too great for the setup, and will eventually if not immediately, cause damage to the hitch or the vehicle frame....

I was able to find some pictures from Yakima that shows these bars installed on a Tiguan like yours and found that they extended quite a bit past the feet of the rack. See attached picture. • What Roof Rack do You Recommend for a 2017 Lexus LS 460?
I have an answer about your Rhino-Rack crossbar system. Unfortunately, I confirmed that Rhino-Rack does not make a crossbar system that is compatible to fit your 2017 Lexus LS 460. Since they do not have any roof racks for your vehicle, they do not manufacture compatible fit kits for the crossbars. Fit kits from other manufacturers do not work with Rhino-Rack crossbars because each company produces specific fitments for their feet/towers. Here at etrailer, we have never seen anyone custom...

  • Best and Quietest Snowboard Rack for a 2014 Acura MDX
To carry up to 4 snowboards on your 2014 Acura MDX I recommend using the Yakima FatCat EVO 6 Rooftop # Y03096. This carrier has a low-profile design that will reduce drag and wind noise. This system will attach to your factory roof crossbars, if equipped. But, if your 2014 Acura MDX does not have factory installed roof rails or a roof rack system then you will need a roof rack system. I recommend the Yakima roof rack consisting of parts # Y00409, # Y28TR, # Y03536, # Y06150, and # Y06105....

  • HD Style Roof Rack Recommendation for 2017 Acura RDX with Naked Roof
Thule does not have any roof rack fits for the naked roof versions of the 2017 Acura RDX and the fit kit from another brand of rack would not work with the system so your best option would be an all new roof rack. The most similar solution would be the Yakima HD roof rack part numbers # Y01157, # Y28TR, # Y03541, # Y06148, # Y06105. This is a similar heavy duty style crossbar that's also aero shaped to help with wind noise etc.

  • Roof Rack and Cargo Box for Mid Length Skis on a 2018 Acura RDX
You've got a lot of great options for your 2018 Acura RDX. With the vehicle being so new, there's fits being added for the vehicle all the time. Normally, you'd need to take a clearance measurement to fit the box. You'd do this by measuring from the center of the front crossbar to the line where the hatch meets the roof. Any box you pick will need to have a minimum clearance of less than this number to fit to your vehicle. Without a roof rack, however, this is a little difficult to...
