Video Transcript for WeatherTech Side Window Air Deflectors Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Speaker 1: Today in our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the WeatherTech side window air deflectors with dark tinting. Part number WT84740.These deflectors are designed to reduce wind noise when you're traveling at high speeds. And on wet days, when it might be raining, you can allow any interior heat to escape without water getting in. It has a very low profile design to it. It's gonna give you that nice factory look, while also doing its job. It has a 3mm thick acrylic construction, which is gonna be very durable, and it's gonna hold up during tough conditions.

The kit's gonna include four pieces: one for the front and back, and for the passenger and driver side windows. It's a very quick and tool free installation, so let's install them together. We have our two channel clips for the rear deflector, our weather strip tool, and then our rear and front deflectors.Once you've removed all the packaging stickers and adhesives strips, you're ready to go ahead and install it. We're gonna start down here at the front of our window. This bottom part right here, is gonna sit right here on top of our window frame. So we'll just go ahead and start sliding that into place.

Right there, as you can see, it's sitting on top. And then we're going to come up to the top and you just kind of bend it. These are very durable, but you do want to be careful not to break it in half. We're just gonna come a little bit lower and start to slide it up there. Just like that.

Now we can work our way down, feeding it under that channel.Once you have your deflector in place, we can start to roll up our window to let the deflector kind of settle in. You're gonna want to do this about five times. Very slowly, we're gonna start down here and just kind of pull it away to give it enough space to get up and in. So we'll just come up slowly. Then we'll come up to the top and do the same thing, just kind of pull it out, and just let the window feed itself up and through.

When you hear that snap, don't worry, it didn't break, it's just settling into place. Then we can just roll the window back down, and then you want to do this about four to five more times. Once you've rolled it up about five times, you're gonna wanna let it sit in the upward position for about 12 hours.Per our instructions for our channel clips, we need to install them about 4 inches from the edge of our window frame. So that's about right there, roughly. It doesn't have to be exact. So we're just going to take our weather stripping tool, and just pull that down, and then insert that clip, just like that. Up and in. If you're having trouble getting it into place with your fingers, you can use a flathead screwdriver, just to kind of come up and in, and adjust it to wherever you need. Now it's the same process for the other clip. Now with our back strip, we can go ahead and just get it in the channel, like so. And then as we come up, we're gonna start at the back, kind of sliding it into place, making sure that we get this lip of the deflector on the front side of the clip. Then just work your way along to the front and do the same thing for the front clip.Once you have the rear deflector in place, you can now start to roll up your window. Again, you're gonna wanna pull it back a bit to give it some space to feed up and in there. Once you have that one, give space for this side. Get it all the way up. And then roll it back down and up about three to four more times. Once you've rolled your window up about five times, don't forget to keep it up for about 12 hours. Other than that, you can close your door, and you're ready to deflect some wind. And that's gonna do it for our WeatherTech side window air deflectors on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

Very brittle. Broke one installing it. WeatherTech was good about replacing it. The back ones won’t stay on. Ended up loosing one. Finally just took them off.

I would not recommend. First the wrong rear deflectors were in my box, etrailer took care of that for me. Then after I got the correct parts, I broke the first rear one trying to put it in. Unsure what I’m going to do now. Don’t ignore the reviews saying they break easy like I did.

First bad experience with a WeatherTech product. Do not recommend for 2010-2014 Ford Expedition or similar models. I see 4 flaws.

3 of 4 pieces cracked at the corner even when I tried to be as gentle as possible in incrementally raising windows once installed. It seems to be just a few millimeters too oversized.

Second, Rear windows will not raise all the way back in place due to thickness of plastic, it stops. You have to push windshield up while holding the switch.
I was worried that this force would damage the window tint due to excess friction and it may push the rubber out to the point it would be damaged if I took them off months or years later.

Third, and arguably the most important. Too much wind noise. The Ford Expedition is very quiet for an SUV. I tried these for close to a week and I had to take them off. It sounded like gusty wind noise even when there was no wind other then the vehicle going through the air. I removed them and the SUV was quiet again.

Four, It isn't optically correct. Hard to see in the photo, but when looking at the area between the A pillar and side mirror, it's wavy and distracting. Also makes the A pillar appear much larger when it's darker outside due to the tint.

So even though they look nice, and you can crack your windows in the rain if your car is sitting still or you never exceed 50 mph... I wasn't able to get comfortable with the above issues. I can't return them since I installed them and tried them. But hopefully someone else can benefit from this.

by:

It’s still early. I did the upgrade while in a walking boot (cannot drive) due to an Achilles rupture. So I can only comment on the install, which was much easier on the back windows. The front windows were a little awkward but eventually went in. I don’t like the ‘clunk’ as the window closes in the last inch or so. The window comes in contact with the deflector and clunks. I hope the plastic heats / cools and reforms as it sits over the next few days. Otherwise I like the look and finish, it’s just the fit which I’m not completely convinced off yet.

by:

These weather tech side window rain guards are really well made. Front ones installed easily and allow us to crack open the windows even in the rain. I could not for the life of me install the rear ones, or I would have given them 5 stars.

by:

Had to deal with tape for the REAR window installations as design called for it, unlike the FRONT windows. Hope they stay in place. One front window wants to hit the guard and am hoping the heat of the day may help it fit better. All said & done -- believe Weather Tech is the best car rain guard product on the market.

by:

The front rain guards fit my 2023 Passport perfectly. The rears weren't setting correctly in the window seal and neither rear window would roll up completely. Also, when I remove the two rear rain guards, I noticed the thinnest part, which is supposed to go between the window seal and the glass had broken in use. I have no patience for this, so I threw the rears in the trash. In retrospect, I'd have have rated these a 5 if I'd only purchased the fronts.

by:

I put these window deflectors on my 2018 Chevrolet Cruze LT. I love the look it gives on my car, and the option it gives me when it is raining to roll down my window. I would give this a 5-star rating and 100% recommendation

by:

I didn't know how much I would love these rain guards until I finally bought and installed them. Install is easy. etrailer shipping quickly. It's been a year and they have held up to the sun and rain, and look brand new still. They work GREAT. Highly recommend!

by:

Helps keep the vehicle cooler in the heat. Easy installation.

by:

Love these, much better than the ones that stick to the outside of the door frame. They tuck in nice and sleek, are great for keeping the rain out. Put them on all my cars now.
