Video Transcript for Review of Diode Dynamics Off Road Lights - SS3 Pro LED Fog Pod Light Yellow - DDY79QV

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Diode Dynamics SS3 Pro LED fog pod light. Now this three inch LED fog pod light is going to give you bright light with reduced glare for improved visibility and safety. Now as you can see, I already have this light connected to my power source and what you see right now is the amber backlight and that's one of my favorite features of this particular light. This amber backlight is going to be great for a stylish touch to your vehicle or for more visibility when you're not using the main beam.

And so I just wanted to show you what this looks like with our lights off. And so you got an idea of what this is gonna look like in low light conditions. This is a wide view that I'm giving you now, showing you what this looks like from a distance. And then let me go ahead and activate that fog beam. I'm gonna turn this off to the side so I don't blind you, so you can see just how much brighter that fog beam is going to be.

And I am going to go ahead and shine this on the wall behind me to give you a better idea of what that beam looks like. This fog pattern is going to give you high intensity light and an extremely wide field of view, as you can see there. And this light has a color temperature of 3000 kelvin yellow, which is going to be perfect for bad weather like rain or fog. So again, that's this light with the fog beam activated and then that's what it's going to look like with the back light on. Lemme go ahead and turn my studio lights back on.

And just one more time, I want to show you that beam on the wall behind me. Even with my bright lights on here, you can see just how bright that light is. So the power draw on this light with the main beam is 2.7 amps, and with the backlight that's on right now is 0.03 amps. And this light is actually designed with a newer technology known as custom TIR optics. TIR stands for total internal reflection.

Unlike the older technology that uses reflectors or simple projector lenses, which aren't great at focusing all the light where you want it, this custom design, large TIR optic actually collects and focuses all of the light forward very efficiently. And from there, instead of having another external lens, certain lenses, certain lens patterns have actually been molded directly into the surface of this lens. That's going to prevent the normal efficiency loss that you see with an outside lens. When you shine light through any type of glass or plastic, as you might know, you're going to lose some efficiency there. Sometimes you can lose up to 10% of that light just from it shining through. So by making it as part of this lens, you pick up some additional efficiency there as well. So the raw lumen rating of this light is going to be 5,220 lumens, and then the measured lumen rating is going to be 2,700 lumens, and then the peak beam intensity is 10,900 candela. Now, in case you don't know, candela ratings measure the directional light output and it's how anything is rated where you want light shining in a specific direction. Lumen ratings are just for omnidirectional output, like your regular light bulbs where you want the light shining in all directions. But for more detailed description of this rating, you can visit this product page on our website or Diode Dynamics provides additional information that you can find. Now this does include an industry standard integrated Deutsch style connector, and I do have another one of those connectors with a pigtail here for demonstration purposes. Just so you can see what this looks like when you have this actually, unplugged from the light. And while we're looking at the back of the light, I wanted to point out that we have a breather patch that's going to prevent any moisture buildup. And then the these heat sinks, which you no doubt have already been looking at here. These are going to dissipate the heat quickly to increase the longevity of your light. Now this light has been built with high intensity LED chips and it features a durable, powder coated aluminum construction, and this heavy duty construction is going to withstand extreme temperatures, corrosion and vibration. Testing is completed to SAE standards, just like your factory lighting components. And you probably didn't know this, but Diode Dynamics actually designed, engineered, and assembled this light right down the highway from us at their headquarters here in the Greater St. Louis area. So this is again, a three inch fog pod light. I just give you some overall dimensions from end to end. On our width, we're sitting at three and a quarter inches, and that's gonna be the same measurement for our height, top to bottom, three and a quarter inches. And then the depth from the front of our light all the way to the end of our heat sinks here, we're sitting right at about, two and three eighths inches deep. And as I'm sure you can expect, this light draws high current and requires adequately sized wiring for a safe operation. So if you're not using a Diode Dynamics wiring harness, you do want to use wiring that's size 16 gauge or larger to ensure safe operations. Now we do carry this light with brackets. We also carry it in pairs, in different intensities as well, different brightnesses. So depending on what you're looking for, you can find those other options here at etrailer.com. Well, I think that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that our time together was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
