Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Diode Dynamics SS5 Sport LED Combo Pod Light with Bracket. This five inch LED combo pod light is gonna be great for seeing near and far. It's gonna give you bright light with reduced glare for improved visibility and safety. As you can see, I have this light connected to my power source already.

What you're currently seeing is one of my favorite features of this light, it's the backlight, but we'll talk more about that in the next moment or so. I also have this light installed in the bracket that's included with this light. This bracket's gonna make it very easy to install this light virtually anywhere on your vehicle. And it does include the hardware to install the light into the bracket. And what's nice about the bracket with the light is you're gonna be able to adjust the angle of the light in the bracket wherever you want it.

And then once you find that angle, you'll just tighten down the hardware and you'll be good to go. You'll also receive the hardware to install the bracket onto your vehicle. And I do have a bracket here that's not been installed and this is constructed of sturdy aluminum. So this is gonna hold up really well for you. You're not gonna have to worry about corrosion, it's going to withstand the elements quite well.

So a very sturdy aluminum bracket that's included with this. Let me go ahead and turn my studio lights off here and back out to a wider view just to show you that backlight. This amber backlight is gonna add a great stylish touch to your vehicle or even give you a little bit more visibility when you're not using that main beam. And speaking of the main beam, let me fire that up just to show you the difference there between the amber backlight, which you see there, and then that yellow combo beam. And let me see if I can shine this on the wall behind me just to give you an idea of what that looks like.

So that combo pattern is a mix between a driving beam and a flood beam. So this light's gonna be really great for a general all around use. This light has a color temperature of 3000 kelvin, so that yellow color's gonna be great for bad weather like rain or fog. And this light has a raw lumen rating of 4,800 lumens and a measured lumen rating of 3,700 lumens. And even with my studio lights back on, you can see that beam and just how bright this light is. Now, this light has a peak beam intensity of 71,200 candela. And in case you don't know, candela ratings measure the directional light output and it's how anything is rated where you want lights shining in a specific direction. Lumen ratings are just for omnidirectional light output, like your regular light bulbs where you want light shining in all directions. Now the power draw on that main beam is 2.8 amps and on the backlight at 0.24 amps. And this light has been designed with a newer technology known as Custom TIR Optics. TIR stands for total internal reflection. So unlike the older technology that uses reflectors or simple projector lenses, which aren't real efficient in focusing all of the light where you want it, this custom designed large TIR optic actually collects and then focuses all of that light forward very efficiently. And then instead of having another external lens, certain lens patterns have been molded directly into this lens surface. So that's gonna prevent the normal efficiency loss you see with an outside lens. As you might know, when you shine light through any type of glass or plastic, you could lose some of that light and you could lose up to 10% of that light just from it shining through. So by making it as a part of this lens, you're actually gonna pick up some efficiency rather than lose it. Now this does include the industry standard integrated Deutsch-style connector there. So you can see I'm using that pigtail obviously to power this light. But here's what that pigtail looks like when it's not installed. That's gonna plug right into the back of the light. And then while we're looking at the back of the light, let me see if I can show you, we have two breather patches there, that's going to prevent any moisture buildup in the light. Then we have these heat sinks here on the back housing that's gonna dissipate heat quickly to increase the longevity of this light. Now this light has been built with high intensity LED chips and it does feature a durable powder coated aluminum construction. So that heavy duty construction is gonna do a great job of withstanding extreme temperatures, corrosion, vibration. And testing has been completed to SAE standards, just like your factory lighting components on your vehicle. And an interesting fact is that Diode Dynamics actually designed, engineered and assembled this light right down the highway from us at their headquarters here in the greater St. Louis area. Now let's go over some measurements. Looking at the overall width from end to end, we're sitting pretty close to five and 1/8 inches wide. That's gonna be the same measurement for the height of the light, but when you add that bracket, obviously it's going to increase the height a little bit. So measuring from the top of the light to the bottom of the bracket, we're gonna be pretty close to about five and a half inches tall depending on the angle of the light. And then looking at the overall depth from the front of our light to the end of our heat sinks, we're pretty close to about two and three quarters inches deep. Now this light does draw high current and it does require adequately sized wiring for safe operation. So if you're not using a Diode Dynamics wiring harness, you do wanna make sure that you're using wiring that's 16 gauge or larger.
