Video Transcript for Carr Custom-Fit Side Steps Installation - 2019 Chevrolet Colorado

Hey guys, Shane here with etrailer.com. Today, I want to walk you through how to install the car custom fit sidesteps on your 2019 Chevrolet colorado pickup truck. These are going to come in and set it two. And they're going to Mount directly to your rocker panel using brackets.Adding these steps your vehicle is going to allow you to not only get in, but get out of your vehicle a lot easier. We're going to have a nice tread pattern here on top. So during those snowy weather days, or maybe you get a little bit of mud on your feet, this is going to help get that dirt and anything on your feet off of your shoes when you're getting into the vehicle, helping keeping your vehicle a lot cleaner.

As I mentioned before, they're going to attach to the rocker panel using brackets. These brackets are going to be zinc-plated, so we're not going to have to worry about rust or corrosion. These are going to be hoop style steps. It's going to add a nice touch to your vehicle, giving it a nice rugged off-road look. They're going to be constructed of a durable rust-proof cast aluminum with an XP3 extreme black powder coat finish. It's really going to help resist chipping, peeling and fading.

Our steps are going to have a five inch drop, seven inch wide step, three and a half inches in depth. We're going to notice a tread pattern here. As I mentioned earlier, this is going to give you a nice grip during those wet days. Snowing, you got mud on your feet, anything like that It's going to keep you from slipping as you're getting in and out of the vehicle. Each one of our steps are also going to have a 500 pound weight capacity. As far as the installation on these, it's very simple.

You're going to have one hole. You're going to have to drill into the pinch weld on your rapper panel. Other than that, you're putting a self tightening screw at the top and you're mounting your bracket or for your step onto the brackets yourself. So again, this is going to make it a lot easier to get in and out of your vehicle. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's go ahead and walk you through how to get them installed. To begin our installation.

What you would typically do is wherever your seat normally sits, you want to mark a line at the front of your seat. With the Colorado there is actually a cross member right here, or a support member here. So we're not able to use that as our center mark. So what we're going to have to do is we're going to actually straddle this with our brackets. So we're going to put our steps together. We're going to straddle that bracket. We're going to mark where those brackets will be in place. So we'll take our step ladder bracket like this. This plate goes on the backside. We're going to take our hardware. We'll feed it through each hole like this. And we're just going to hand tighten these in place. All we're trying to do is get in the area where our brackets are going to be mounted on the panel. So next thing we're going to do is with it held up in place, take a marker and mark the edge of the bracket on both sides. Once you get that, we'll take these brackets back off our step.Once you take your bracket off, you're going to hold it up against your lines. This very center hole right here in this bracket is the one we need to mark. We're going to do this on both. Then we're going to take an eighth inch drill bit. Where we marked, we're going to drill a pilot hole, and then we're going to open it up to a five, six.Now we're going to take our brackets, small hex bolt, put a flat washer on it from the outside, we're going to put a flat washer on the inside. The one with the nylon lock nut. We'll do that same thing to the other one. Once you get those in place, we're going to take half inch socket wrench, and we'll tighten it.Now we're going to have to move this wiring harness out of the way to get our self-tapper up here at the top. Take a trim panel tool, flathead screwdriver, we're just going to pop the clip off. Yeah. We're going to take a self-tapper that comes in our kit, five sixteenths socket with a driver. Kinda looks like this, angled because we're kind of out of distance, or we don't have a whole lot. Here we're going to have an issue with the bolts staying in the socket. So if you take the paper towel like this, that'll keep it inside. The we're going to take our step, put it back up into place. Once we get our brackets in we're going to take our long bolts. You're going to put a flat washer on. From the outside go in on each one of the bolts.Seven sixteenths socket wrench, or two sockets. And then we're going to tighten them into place. Once you get one side done, you're going to repeat the process on the other side of the vehicle. Once you've got both steps in place, you're ready to go. Again, I'm Shane with etrailer.com. That's going to do it for a look at and installation on the car. Custom fit sidesteps on your 2019 Chevrolet, Colorado..

They look like the day I put then on. No sign of wear. Still rock solid on vehicle. Very well made.

I found them quite difficult to install. I even had to buy an angle drill which there was no for warning about. I thought that was pretty bogus. I'm sure most
people don't have one on hand. I have 3 drill presses and 4 different handheld drills, but no angle drill, I bought one and it did not fit the area that needed drilling. I finally drilled 2 holes in each bracket straight up from underneath
and put self tapping bolts in them, total 4. I think that works better than 1 bolt in the design of the bracket. And I guess I did acquire an angle drill that was $125.00. All in all I would not buy again.

I had a friend install them for me & I love them! Thinking about getting 2 more for the rear passengers but don't want to bug my friend again to install them! We'll see....

Still great after a year! Love them!

by:

Sad to say I removed them after our first snowfall. They pack up with road snow and you can't step on them . I guess if I lived where there is no snow they would be very good.

by:

These steps are fantastic! The quality and finish are second to none. I am very pleased with purchase.

by:

I've bought for other trucks and been happy, not this time. Carr should reevaluate the mount, very poor on this vehicle. I'm more than a weekend mechanic and found mounting these difficult and it shouldn't be. The quality is there just needs a better mounting design.

by:

Product looks good just have to install that the good. Bad is not ur fault. Shipping terrible slow.

It fit well and does what it is intended to do. Was easy to install...after the holes were drilled. If you would like more adjustability to where the step can be located, I'd recommend a longer step. On a 2024 2500HD Sierra crew cab, the frame cross member allows for only one attachment point (+/- maybe 1/2") for the front step. It would have been nice if solid carbide drill bits were included instead of twice as much hardware as I needed (each step came with enough nuts/bolts for 2 steps). Cobalt and Titanium bits worked, but took a while and I could only get about 2 holes drilled before bit was shot. Overall I'm happy with the purchase.

by:

Originally ordered these as a replacement for the front. Did not check size before ordering.
Decided to put them under the rear doors instead.
Since I already had them on the front and was able to see how they were mounted, it made the install was a piece of cake.
The instructions were clearly understood for my Silverado and only took me about 15 minutes per side to install.
I have since ordered the larger pair for the front and will use the same brackets to replace.
Only gripe is the finish on the ones that were originally on the truck (8 years old) has chipped off due to mag chloride on the road and frozen ice being knocked off.
Since I was not the original purchaser, I cannot claim warranty issues as they are guaranteed for life.
Hopefully with the new ones Carr perfected their coating, we will find out in another 8 years!

These were a perfect choice for our 2016 Winnebago Travato 59G. Not a lots of skill required and they look great. Very nice product. Thank you for the fast service.

by:

The step has worked perfectly. However, I installed it myself, I was enable to
drill one of the attachment, even with a 90 degree drill and the proper bit and oil in my 2023 Sierra.

by:

so far so good....easy to install...just use good drill bits

by:

why are they called Nerf bars? none of my other Nerf stuff looks like that.....

by:

It helps me to climb into my truck, with adding an extra step. Very happy with it.

by:

Awesome customer service. Answered all of my questions to help me get an account setup and to get the correct part.

by:

Steps look great. Easy installation. Shipped fast.

by:

Love this step!It is a replacement for one we lost in an accident. Glad they sell just one!

by:

Prompt shipping. Product appears as adv ertised.

by:

My order arrived in less than a week and it took about a hour or so to install. Instructions were clear and easy for most any fitment. For my Chevy it could not have been any easier. This truck is for my daughter who has spina bifada so it enables her to climb in easier. The steps look great and I'd highly recommend them and etrailer. I've used etrailer a few times now and will continue as they have quality parts at some of the best prices!

by:

Purchased to replace one that had broken with previous owner, not sure how it was broken. That said delivery was as expected and packaged in good shape . Steps seem sturdy and well built.

by:
