Video Transcript for Kuat Ibex Truck Bed Rack MOLLE Panel Review

Hi everyone, Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the full height MOLLE panel for your Kuat Ibex truck racks. Now this is gonna come in a variety of different fits for the different truck bed options that the Ibex has. Today, we're seeing this on our mid-size truck with the short bed, but you can plug your vehicle information to our fit guide. We can find the right kit for you. Just know that all of them are gonna be pretty much the same covering that full height, but they will vary a little bit on their height, based on the truck that you fit.

So the one for full size trucks will be a little bit taller than this, but it'll still look the same proportionally on the Ibex. Let's check it out. So this MOLLE panel is gonna be a great way to mount up some extra accessories. If you've got an Ibex truck bed rack and you've got stuff to load up on your camping trips, then where are you gonna put it Well, the Ibex has plenty of options for mounting things like bike racks or you can mount things to the top crossbars. Sometimes you've got smaller accessories that just don't work well on top of the roof.

So the next best place is to go out to the side and the MOLLE panel is a great way to mount up maybe some large MOLLE pouches for a really secure fit. Or you can maybe use some of Kuat's accessories that are designed for the MOLLE panel, like their shovel mount. That'll just bolt directly in and give you a really solid mount on the side where it's not taking up bed space, it's not taking up roof space, and it's really accessible, ready to go. So if you've got some sort of need for something like that it could be a great way to just organize your cargo and keep it readily accessible because it's on the outside. Now, it's also important to note that if you like the idea of the MOLLE panel, but let's say you don't need the full length, they do make narrow versions that will only cover a small section, leaving an open window where you can maybe get into the truck bed if you needed it.

Or, if you're running your Ibex in the low profile configuration with this middle section here removed, then they do make low profile MOLLE panels that will still cover the full length, but they'll just be shorter to accommodate that shorter height that the Ibex is in. So if you're running it in the full height where that middle piece is in and everything's pretty much flush with the roof of your truck, then this is the one you need. Now the setup and installation process for this is really straightforward. It's really just six bolts with some T-nuts on the back that slide into these channels. Right here, you can see one of them and it's going to just repeat two more times down the line on the bottom, and three more times on the top.

So it was bolted into these channels, and that's how it attaches. Everything's custom fit around the Ibex here and it's a really clean installation. So if you did want to take it off for whatever reason, then it'll also be pretty easy to do because it's just a couple of bolts and those T-nuts on the back in the channels. Now the panel is constructed of a heavy gauge aluminum with a black powder coat finish over the top of it which is gonna help give it a nice look but also keep it very corrosion resistant, as compared to something like steel, where if that powder coat scratches away, then you're probably gonna see some rust and corrosion. Now, I do like that for the weather resistance but one thing to note is that it's just not going to be as strong as steel would be. One thing I noticed is just a little bit of flex in the panel, if I apply some pressure on the shovel here. And depending on what you mount up, you might notice a little bit of flex there, too. I think realistically though, for the most part, it's gonna be totally fine. It's not like we're mounting anything really heavy on the side of these panels and even if you did have it fully loaded, there's not gonna be something putting all this outward pressure like I am as I move it. It's one of those things that I noticed. I think I would've liked to see steel and I don't think I would've minded too much if it had a little bit less weather resistance. But considering everything around the Ibex is aluminum, it'll match and all of it's gonna stay looking really nice for a long period of time. But if you're looking to organize your cargo a bit more, then I think this is a great way to do it. Even if you're not utilizing Kuat's accessories, if you've already got some MOLLE bags that can weave through that panel then it's gonna be a great way to mount them up securely and make sure that you always have 'em on hand. Or you could very easily use this as maybe a tie down point. If you've got something on top of the bars that you wanna tie down, you can put a hook through here, probably, or you could just use these slots to DIY mount something. Really, there's a lot of possibilities there. And for me, I like to keep my stuff organized and especially the frequently-used things or the things I might have to use in case of an emergency, like recovery tracks or a shovel. If I am going off road and get stuck, then I want it to be accessible. I don't want it to be buried in the truck bed where it's gonna be hard to reach. Outside here, where it's easy to reach, is what I need whenever I'm stuck. So it's really just down to you how you're using your truck, how you're using your Ibex, and if you've got the types of accessories that could easily mount to the side then I think this could be a really good fit for you. Thanks for watching.
