Ellen: Hey everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're taking a quick look at the standard tap and die kit. This is going to be really handy for any kind of job where you might need to make a new weld nut or a threaded portion, maybe you need to repair a bolt that's gotten stripped out. Whatever the case might be this can be really handy in a lot of situations. Now we do have another kit that's also metrics, so if you need that one as well as opposed to this one, it's probably a good idea to get both because you never know what kind of job you might have, but that is available, sold separately here at etrailer.com.So let's take a closer look at what actually you get in the kit. Everything comes in this case here.

It's going to be a nice, hard plastic, nothing really too fancy with this box but it just helps to keep everything contained, pretty slim and easy to transport if you ever need to. I'm not going to go over every single piece that comes in the kit, but just give you some basic overview. It does have a little card to kind of help give you some instructions on how to use it for the taps and dies. So we'll have all our different dies here, they are labeled with the sizes and then we'll have our taps as well. So you have a lot of range here.

This guy is going to be our smaller tap wrench for these smaller taps. We'll have our larger tap wrench, which I'm trying to get out of here. So pretty basic. The handles thread out and into allow you to adjust for the different sizes and as you can see, it kind of went a little too far and this piece did come out. Not a big deal though, you can just get that put back in place, if I can get it threaded back on.

Here we go. It's actually reverse threaded. So that does allow you again to adjust it to fit in whichever tap you're using. And then we'll have our die wrench here.You get a little screwdriver to adjust, so you can take out the die, switch it out for a different one and pretty simple to do that. Just push it out, grab the next one, find the little indent and pop it down, tighten it up.

It does also come with a thread counter or a tool to figure out what kind of threads you have on the bolt, which can be very handy since it's not always very obvious. Switching these out again. And that's located underneath these guys here.So this will allow you to figure out what kind of bolt you're working with. It can be kind of hard to get some of these out, especially on this side, you might just have to kind of use your fingernail to push them out and see all of those. Get that out, there. So that will give us our different measurements for those threads.So all in all a pretty complete kit. My biggest criticism with the kit is just that it doesn't come with metric you have to give those two kits separately. It'd be kind of cool if it was all in one, but you do get a lot of different sizes with this. So if you want to double-check with that, just to make sure that it's going to have everything you need, not a bad idea. But other than that, pretty simple. Again, it's just 17 taps, 17 dies and should be pretty good for any kind of shop or at home use.Last thing I want to do is give you some measurements of this box itself, just so you can know what you're dealing with. About 13 inches by about six and a quarter, and it's about one and three quarters inch tall. So again, pretty compact, can easily fit into any kind of toolbox and should be good to go.
