Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your tool box lid, bed cover, or boat hatch stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your lid to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this universal gas strut lift support arm. This is gonna replace one lift support arm on your truck cover, boat hatch, toolbox, where other application. This is going to extend to hold your lid hatch open. It's gonna give you a little assistance as you're lifting it up and it then will gently compress while closing to help prevent getting your fingers smashed in the door or any of your gear and that sort of thing.
So, this does have these 10 millimeter nylon ball sockets, that are going to very easily connect onto your OEM and 10 millimeter ball studs. Just gonna snap right in place and give you a nice firm connection. Overall links here from the center of one ball socket to the center of the other. We're looking at just over 17", we'll call it 17 and 3 16th of an inch. When we compress this it's gonna have a compressed length of 10 and 116th.
So our stroke here is gonna be about 7 and 3, 16th of an inch. Our compression force that this is going to compress with is going to be 51 to 61 pounds which is equivalent to about 227 to 271 Newtons. And this does feature dampening technology. That's gonna provide a nice smooth operation to help eliminate that bouncing or jumping that you sometimes get when you're opening or closing. This is going to ensure that it's gonna have a nice frictionless movement in all weather conditions.
So no matter if you're out in the rain or the snow, this is gonna operate well for you. This does have this nitride coated steel shaft. That is gonna be corrosion resistance. These worked fine during warm weather, however, when it got cold they quit working and would not hold nor lift the glass lid. These have been replaced with factory units.
just took longer then expected .
So far so good. We will see if they last another winter here in Colorado. The struts we have had in the past seem to fail in the winter time.
