Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your tool box lid, bed cover, or boat hatch stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your lid to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this universal gas strut lift support arm. This is going to replace one lift support arm on your truck cover, boat hatch, toolbox, or other application. This will extend it to help hold your lid or hatch open. So, you're not gonna have to worry about it slamming shut on you, catching your fingers, and potentially, other gear in as it's closing.
It will gently compressed while it's closing to give you a little extra support there. So, this is going to fit right onto your 10 millimeter ball fittings. Now, this does have the 10 millimeter nylon ball sockets here that are going to just simply click right in place onto those original fittings, give you a nice, secure connection. The overall length here from the center of one ball socket to the center of the other, we're right at 14 1/2 inches. Our compressed length is gonna be 8 11/16 of an inch.
So, our stroke here, we're looking at about 5 13/16 of an inch. This does have 37 to 47 pounds of compression force, which is about 164 to 209 newtons. This does feature a dampening technology that provides a nice, smooth operation to help eliminate your bouncing and jumping. So, this is going to ensure a frictionless movement in all weather conditions. Our steel shaft here does have a nitride coating that's gonna help resist corrosion.
We've got a black powder coat finish here as well that's gonna give it a nice, long-lasting performance. This does come with a limited lifetime warranty. These worked fine during warm weather, however, when it got cold they quit working and would not hold nor lift the glass lid. These have been replaced with factory units.
just took longer then expected .
So far so good. We will see if they last another winter here in Colorado. The struts we have had in the past seem to fail in the winter time.
