Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, run the red hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Works perfect. Took me more time to run the power wire up to the battery they it did to install the hitch.

Worked great for a few months, then my Durango’s right turn rear signal went out for a few days. The next time I hooked my trailer up there was no left turn on the trailer. After contacting etrailer, they said they would replace it under warranty. I had the replacement installed a few months ago. My right turn signal has been going out again and my trailer lights are acting up again. I would not recommend this product but it’s all I could find.

Bought the first one and it died like 2 weeks after its 90 day warranty. Had to buy another one. So far its still working.

I purchased a Hopkins trailer wiring harness from etrailer because they had the same product as some other sites only they had it for a few dollars cheaper. Obviously I knew what I was going to get from hopkins and that was a quality wiring kit like they always provide. etrailer was a great middle man in getting me the product I wanted at the best price with great customer service. They responded within seconds after my purchase with tracking information and my wiring harness showed up in a box packed by Hopkins... inside another box and some paper for cushioning from etrailer. Great work and thank you for going the extra mile.

Not too bad. I have to check the wiring because I may have a bad ground. Lights stay on all the time so I just pulled the inline fuse and put it back in when I tow. I have to remove the entire bumper cover from the vehicle so I may never deal with it.

Perfect! Everything from the ease of ordering, shipped when stated, correct product in box and installation. This harness is a perfect match to my 2014 Durango. Very minimal tools/effort required to install. The instructions are written well and in proper English. The plug and play feature takes all of the guess work away! All lights work properly. Running, brake, turn signal and 4 way. The only con I discovered was the length of the power wire. It’s too short to follow the vehicle’s factory harness. I spent the extra time to install it into the harness as much as possible and decided to take a shortcut in the rear where it was least likely to be subjected to damage. I felt this better than increasing it’s length and risking a voltage loss and higher current draw. Also, to increase longevity, I soldered and heat shrunk the power wire connections. Otherwise, it fits and works perfect!

Unit shorted out in less than 6 months. Caused intermittent electrical issues with my vehicle. Easy to install.

The vast majority of the time, a short circuit in the trailer wiring is typically what causes a taillight converter to fail. Before replacing the wiring harness/converter, youll want to carefully examine the lighting circuits on the trailer, beginning at the trailer connector, and tracing your way back toward the lamps. Look for pinched or broken wires and loose connections. Check the wire insulation, making sure it isnt cracked or worn away. Points where wiring passes through a hole in the trailer frame are a prime spot for the wire insulation to become compromised. Once the short is located and repaired, replace the harness/converter and you should be fine. Ill link you to a wiring troubleshooting article that you might find helpful as well.

I put this on a 2014 Durango. The installation is fairly easy but time-consuming. I replaced a Kurts harness because it failed twice. So far, this harness works great. I'm very pleased with etrailers customer service. If you have a question, I suggest giving them a call. They are very informative.

  • Where Does Power Wire of Hopkins Trailer Wiring for 2014 Dodge Durango Run
You'd want to attach the power wire to the positive post directly under the seat like you mentioned having. It's kind of glossed over in the install instructions but you need to attach the power wire directly to the battery for it to operate properly.

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring for 2016 Dodge Durango
There are a few options for your 2016 Dodge Durango, and the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle-Specific Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Trailer Connector, # HM1142214, is a confirmed fit for your vehicle. This is my recommendation because it has a simple plug-in wiring set-up that only requires you to run one wire to the battery for power, which safeguards your vehicle's factory wiring. This system also offers watertight protection, which is a great addition. I've attached a review video for you.

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness For A 2022 Dodge Durango
When it comes to installing a trailer wiring harness on your 2023 Dodge Durango we offer three different options for your vehicle we have the: Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness # C56336 T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118617 Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness # HM11142214 All three harness will have a plug and play installation but I recommend choosing The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118617. • Trailer Wiring Kit for 2020 Dodge Durango
To determine if you have the Factory tow package on your 2020 Dodge Durango I would look under the vehicle between the spare tire and rear bumper for the factory connector. If you see the round connector about 1-1/2" in diameter with a blank plug than you do have the wiring. If you don't have the vehicle or capability to look underneath it you can always contact a dealership with your VIN number and they can tell you every option that Durango came with. If you have the factory connection...

For your 2016 Dodge Durango, the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # HM11142214 is a great option to install a 4-way flat connection. The 12V battery wire, should be run directly to the battery using the inline fuse and not spliced into another accessory wire. This wire powers the unit and protects your factory wiring from issues. If your vehicle already has a factory tow package, you can use the OEM kit with 7-way. If not, to get a...

  • Towing Wiring Harness for 2014 Dodge Durango
The wiring harness you need will depend on what purpose you're needing it to serve. By 'Towbar', do you mean that you are installing a trailer hitch so you can tow a trailer behind your Durango? If so, you'll need part # TK22113. If you're looking to wire the vehicle so you can flat tow it behind a motorhome, you'll have a few different choices. If you're looking for a minimally invasive installation, a magnetic mount towing lamp kit like the Roadmaster # RM-2120 would be a good choice....

  • Trailer Wiring for a 2018 Dodge Durango GT
I agree the Draw-Tite, part # DT38MR, is the best looking hitch available for your 2018 Dodge Durango. If the trailer you're going to be towing has a 4-way connector then I recommend the Hopkins, part # HM11142214. The converter box mounts with two screws instead of one or just double sided tape like the other options. A lot of the times we see issues with wiring it's because the converter box took a hit from not being mounted well enough and damaged it. The extra screw will help...

For your 2018 Jeep Compass with new body style, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 76144. I've attached a photo of a customer's install to assist in the final look. I don't know if there is a reason why the manufacturer didn't access the frame rails from the bumper, but I assume it is the amount of time for install. This methos of install is suggested to take the average professional installer about 40 minutes. According to the...
