Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the tail light housings. You will have to remove interior trim paneling to access these connection points. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Hello, friends and neighbors, welcome back, I'm Steven with etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at our CURT T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four-pole flat trailer connector. Now with any wiring connector here, or most of 'em, they are custom fit, I went ahead and threw up that by my left-hand shoulder, this particular part fits a 2018 through 2022 Toyota CHR, and it also fits the 2022s to 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross with LED lights. Now always use our fit guide, etrailer.com, center of the page, you can put in your year, make, and model, make sure you're getting the right part the first time. Now this four-way will provide a connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's turn signals. It is compatible with five-pole, six-pole, and seven-pole adapters.
Those adapters are sold separately, you can get them on etrailer.com. The nice thing with these, what they call again, T-connector wiring harnesses is, they're very simple to use. So what do we mean by T-connector Well, you can kind of see here, I got a shape of a T, I got the bottom and then the top part here. So on your vehicle's taillights, once you access that panel behind the taillights, you'll simply unplug the factory taillight connector, you will then plug that one with this into the taillight, and then take the one you unplug from the taillight and put it in this one, thus, creating that connection without cutting or splicing, so very, very simple concept, very nice, easy to use. You will also then run one wire, a 12-volt lead from your battery all the way back to the rear of the car.
You got the supplied fuse, and all the little hardware and stuff here. I left this kind of taped up. It's got zip ties, the butt connectors, the ring terminals, and the fuse itself is in there as well that goes inside of that fuse system. So when you are installing this, you will actually cut this wire in half, and then that'll be in line that way. But they gave it to you in one piece, just know that.
You also get a nice dust cover here, that's gonna go over your four-pole or four-flat connector once you've had it installed. It also comes with this black box here. I like to tell people this is like the brain of the appliance or the part here, it's called their Surface Mount Technology or SMT. It basically gives a consistent, reliable performance by maximizing your trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat. Because basically, a lot of cars nowadays have LED lights and that kind of thing, this guy here, basically kind of makes it all work together, if you will, in simple terms.
So that's a nice little product that's all tightly sealed and you don't have to worry about vibrations, weather, that kind of stuff. Now again, basically you're gonna remove your interior trim panel to access these connection points that we talked about. And then once you've plugged in these connectors and ran that hot lead all the way to your battery, you will then connect the fuse bypass holder, like I said, or the fuse holder to the positive terminal of your battery per the instructions that come with the package. And then once you've got all that installed, you basically have that four-way connector stowed in and out of the way area in your cargo area or trunk. So again, very, very easy install. We've got many videos on our website, etrailer.com, you can watch them, and I'm pretty sure you can get this installed with no problems.
