When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Electric Reverse Lockout

The electric reverse lockout on this trailer brake actuator is automatically activated when you shift your tow vehicle into reverse. The solenoid wires into your trailer connector - which connects to your tow vehicle - so that it can detect when you are in reverse. When your vehicle is in reverse, the solenoid ensures that the hydraulic actuator does not activate your trailer's brakes, thus allowing you to back up your rig. To use the lockout feature, you must have a 5-pole flat, 6-way round, or 7-pole trailer connector.

Adjustable Channel Design

The adjustable channel on this trailer brake actuator allows for ultimate versatility. Mount almost any type of coupler (sold separately) - from a standard ball coupler to a lunette ring or clevis attachment - to fit your specific application. In addition, the 3 mounting positions on the channel let you adjust the height of the coupler. Just place the coupler so that it matches the height of the ball mount or other hitch attachment on your tow vehicle and you will be able to tow your trailer levelly.

Video Transcript for Review of Titan Brake Actuator - Surge Brake Actuator - T4864120

Today we're going to take a look at the Titan adjustable channel disc brake actuator with the reverse lockout and a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. This actuator installs on the tongue of your trailer, and what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and the momentum will push the trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. So with the surge brake system, this actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. So when this happened, the actuator will contract, which applies force to the master cylinder in the back here, and this in turn will supply the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. This one uses a unique roller designed to help reduce resistance during the telescoping to create straight line movement. You can see right here and right here, there's two rollers here, two rollers down here, and if you notice they have the grease zerk fittings on their ends, which makes it easy for your grease gun to attach and lubricate those rollers.

This is a sturdy, durable steel construction, it will resist bending in jackknife situation. Now this one has the electric for reverse lockout. Right in the back here you can see the wires coming out, it's a solenoid, and that lets you back up without actuating your trailer brakes when you're in reverse. Basically the electric reverse lockout is automatically activated when you shift your tow vehicle into reverse. The solenoid wires right here, these will wire into your trailer connector, which will connect to your tow vehicle so that it can determine when you're in reverse.

So basically when your vehicle goes in reverse, the solenoid ensures that the hydraulic actuator does not activate your trailer brakes. Allows you to back up your vehicle. Now to use this lockout feature, you do have to have a five-way flat, six-way round, or a seven-way trailer connector. You'll notice it has this built in shield over it, and that's to protect that solenoid valve from the elements and from any damage. Upfront here, you have the center adjustable channel. Has five different mounting positions for your coupler.

One, two, three, four, five. Now the coupler is not included. We do sell that separately. A few measurements on this. The channel height bottom to the top is right at 12 inches.

Distance between this mounting holes center to center, it's going to be right at. Let's do it this way, two inches. And the inside width, it's going to be right at three inches. This does have a nice corrosion resistance zinc plated finish on it.You can see that it does include the breakaway kit, the breakaway kit is required. And basically what does is this chain will connect to your tow vehicle, so in the case of your trailer might come detached from your tow vehicle, it'll pull this chain. When it pulls that chain, it activates that lover, which will activate the master cylinder to apply the brakes on your runaway trailer. So there's a safety feature that is required. This is a bolt on installation. You can see right down here where it's bolt. This is where you would bolt it onto your trailer tongue. The application, this is for trailers with disc brakes. Gross towing weight capacity is 20,000 pounds, maximum tongue weight capacity is 2,000 pounds, and it is designed to mount onto a straight three inch wide trailer tongue. But that should do it for the review on this Titan adjustable channel disc brake actuator with the reverse lockout and a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity..
