Installation of TrailerMate Brake Controller Adapter

To install your electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the port on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, and it is taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

To hook this adapter up to your trailer brake controller, just connect the 4 wires of the harness - ground, power, brake switch, and brake power - to the corresponding wires on the brake controller. If your brake controller came with a plug built into its wiring harness, you will have to cut off the plug and connect to the wires themselves.

This is going to ease the installation of your electric trailer brake controller by using this custom wiring adapter. All you have to do is connect the 4 wires of the harness to your brake controller with the included buck connectors and then plug the other end into the built-in port beneath your vehicle's dash. Now this is designed to fit 1992 and 1993 Ford Broncos as well as 1994 to 2008 Ford F150 trucks. This is a pigtail wiring adapter.

Again, it's going to ease the installation of your electric trailer brake controller. The connector end is going to plug into the built-in port beneath the dash, wire ends can connect to the wires on the back of the brake controller with the included buck connectors. This is compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from Trailer-Mate, Draw-Tite and Tekonsha. Inside, the wiring is going to be a standard copper wire so it's going to insure a nice long life. Again, it's going to come with all the necessary buck connectors and it's also going to come with some zip ties that are going to help secure your wires up and out of the way. The measurement that we have when we measure the wire from the base of this connector to the end of the exposed wires, that's going to measure 23-1/2 inches. Now if your brake controller came with a plug built into it's wiring harness, all you have to do is cut off the plug and then you can connect the wires themselves with the included connectors. Now to go over the wire functions real quick. Your black wire is going inaudible 00:01:32 battery. White wire is for the ground. The red wire is for the brake signal from the vehicle.

The blue wire is for the brake power to the trailer. That's going to do it for our review of part #TM75050. This is the Trailer-Mate custom wiring adapter for trailer brake controllers. .
