Hi, everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at this rail kit for your Thule Caprock Truck Bed Platform Racks. It's gonna come in two different sizes for the two different versions of the Caprock, the short truck bed version and the long truck bed version. So depending on which one you have, make sure you pick up the right rail kit, because it's gonna be sized to fit with one of those platforms specifically. Let's check it out. So that rail kit is gonna be four separate pieces, one for each side of the platform.

You can see two of them right here, and they don't come all the way to the corners, but that's okay. If you've got larger boxier items that you wanna help box into the platform like some of our larger totes or a cooler, that's okay, because the corner of your item can stick out a little bit, and these raised sides are gonna help hold it in. So if you are strapping down cargo like we are today and you're not using a direct mounted accessory, then this is gonna help keep it a little bit more stable. Now, you, of course, wanna make sure you strap down your cargo properly, and I don't think that this tote is gonna be going anywhere, but if you did hit a big bump or anything and there is something that shifted a little bit, it would hit this side wall instead of slipping off of the platform and maybe loosening the strap up a little bit. Again, it's just going to be a helpful tool to make sure that your cargo stays a little bit more secure than it would on just a strictly flat platform.

These end caps are removable. There's a small circle on the other side, I'm just gonna feel for it real quick, and poke it with a screwdriver to pop that tab in and release this. And that's gonna expose a couple things. The T-track on the inside of the side rail where we can add things like eyelets and tie-downs for other accessories or just to help us secure our cargo. And it's also going to expose the mounting locations.

You've got blocks that are included with this that'll slide into the T-track of your platform and then bolt into that location. It's the exact same hardware that you use to assemble the Caprock, so you should have all the same tools and everything, and that's how you get it secured. And then that cap will just pop back on whenever you're done clicking into place. And because the rails mount into the T-track on your platform, you can move them really anywhere. Maybe just for the front and the back ones though, because the mounting locations are on the outside edges.

With all the slats on the platform running side to side, these front and back rails can be moved to any one of those slats. So if we wanna have just a small section at the front of our platform where things like a cooler or a tote are boxed in, and then the back half here is more for our direct mount accessories, maybe like a jack or a spare tire carrier, and we utilize the T-track for those, then we can. And also, you don't have to use every single one. If we wanted to maybe leave this side rail off and put an awning there instead, we could do that too, or maybe a RoadShower, or maybe leave one side open for a tent to fold over. The possibilities are endless, and the whole system is completely modular, so you can customize it to fit your own needs. The rails are a black powder coated aluminum, so it's gonna be the exact same as your whole Caprock system. Very durable, and I don't think you'll have any worries with rust and corrosion over time, and it's gonna be plenty strong if you do have something pressed up against it. But that's really all there is to it. It's a really solid addition to the Caprock system, because you can customize it, you can move it around if you need to. It's got its own track for tie-down points and other accessories, and you don't have to use every single one. So if you do have something like an awning set up on one side, you don't have to sacrifice that just to have the security rails for your other items like totes, coolers, and luggage.
