Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at this Saris replacement tube, cradle and strap. This is going to replace the cradle for your Saris freedom frame mounted bike platform racks. This will work for the platform racks that are for your one and one quarter inch and two inch hitches. Whether you're launching up a standard bike, tired bike or recumbent bike.
This will also work for the two bike racks and the four bike racks. You can see all the model numbers that this will work with on the screen there. This will also replace the cradle for your Saris freedom two bike platform racks for your spare tire mounts. The two part numbers that you see on the screen there, because this is a direct replacement from Saris, so you can trust this is going to be exactly what you need. You're not going to have to worry about fit issues or compatibility problems.
It's going to have the same soft, rubber cradle to help cushion your bike down to your frame or to your rack. The strap will help keep your bike in place. This will attach to either the down tube or the top tubes, and will adjust independently along the upright mast tightening and loosening that knob there to make sure that your bike of various sizes and shapes will be held in place properly. This isn't going a scratch your bike frame. So it will hold up, allow your bike frame to hold up really well.
It does have the built-in groups here to accommodate your brake lines and cables. So just like the original, this is going to do a great job for you, allowing you to get those bikes held in place once again. So that's going to complete our look for today. Replaces 1 bike tube cradle and strap for Saris Freedom bike platform racks for 1-1/4" and 2" hitches and Saris Freedom bike platform racks for spare tire mounts.The quality of the product seems good but it does not fit larger bike down tubes as other have described (which is why I purchased it). This product will not fit a Trek Slash or probably any newer full suspension bike. So be wary of the etrailer $xx.xx return fee before you purchase.
The right part! I had somehow lost one of the tube cradles for my two bike Saris rack. etrailer had the right part in stock and shipped it out the same day I ordered it. They sent me order tracking information so I could follow the shipping process. The order arrived in about a week, which is the standard these days. No problems otherwise. I would definitely use this vendor again.

I got this as a replacement after I dinged the first one which was not the fault of Saris. Watch your back up camera carefully when you have a rack on the back. I find the system for undoing the hold-down strap a bit difficult on the Saris. It's fairly easy to ratchet the strap tight around the tube, but taking it off the bike is harder than it should be. None of that is the fault of rack attack. They are great.
The whole experience was 5 stars, from order to receipt of the product [bicycle rack replacement part]. Order acknowledgment and shipping notice were very prompt and the item was received in just a couple of days, standard shipping. I can’t imagine the experience having been any better!

After a full years service it still works great! I couldnt be more pleased.
The replacement cradle is an improvement over the oem cradles. The installation took a little more time than I anticipated but was doable by this novice do it yourselfer with hand tools. I had to remove the support bars from the base and slide the cradles over the bottom of the support bars of my Saris Freedom 4 paying attention to the orientation of the cradles. The new cradles support the bike frame without damaging it, no metal on metal contact at all. The cradles were delivered timely and as described. They are of good quality and an excelent value in my opinion.
To replace the cradle the support arm must be removed. This is easy using a large hex (or pliers to hold the outside but that’s a bit harder) and a socket or open end wrench. Remove the support arm and place it on a workbench or table. If the cradle support that you are replacing is the one on the same vertical support as the spring-loaded pull handle, then you need to remove the pull handle as well. First remove the plastic face that says “pull” from the pull handle with a flat screwdriver or similar tool. Use a 5/16 socket on the nut that is inside the pull handle, and needle nose or some other pliers to hold the round end. There are two flat surfaces on the “bolt” inside of the assembly where the spring is located. These might be helpful to keep the pliers from slipping. Once the nut is removed the spring assembly slides out. From this point it is easy to slide off the old cradle support and slide on the new one. Replace the pull handle assembly and then reinstall the support arm on the rack. Voila!
This part was exactly what we needed for our Saris 4 bike hitch. We had one piece broken and were able to locate and purchase from etrailer. The experience was fantastic. I ended up with great customer service and a great part that is still in great condition.
Perfect I called the bike shop and asked for this replacement part they told me $99 through Saris however etrailer had the replacement part for under $30 with shipping cant beat that.
Received what I ordered in a timely fashion and I would purchase from this vendor again if I need any additional replacement parts.
This part worked perfectly as a replacement for the original one. I've had it for over a year now. No issues whatsoever. It was difficult to find this part at the local bicycle retail stores. eTrailer was the best option, if not the only one, and was reasonably priced. eTrailer delivered the order quickly.

Exact replacement and shipped quickly
Ordered on Sunday and received on Friday. My prior cradles had started to wear through and scratch up my bikes. Bought these to replace. Much improved design, able to cinch better around tubes and are all plastic (good) as compared to the originals which were metal under the rubber.
Easy to install. Way better cradle than the one I had that came with the original bike rack.

I have gotten in contact with the manufacturer and they have confirmed that, though we can understand your thinking the frame should fit all the way into the cradle. Given the wide range of bike frame tube sizes the designers had to do their best to create the most universal cradle as possible. This instance is no issue at all and is an approved situation for safe transport. You can see in the photo how the cradle has a few horizontal ridges, these are there for this exact reason and to assist in supporting or holding different size frames.
