Because the distance between a vehicle's water pump and radiator can differ depending on the level of customization, it may be beneficial to invest in a spacer for your belt-driven fan to achieve proper fan placement and, therefore, maximum cooling ability. When installing your new fan and spacer, be sure that the fan has at least a 3/4" clearance from the radiator, belts, hoses and pulleys.
Selecting a Spacer
If the fan you are mounting does not have a shroud, measure from the flange on your vehicle's water pump to the radiator. Subtract 3" from that measurement to get your spacer size. If you are installing a fan with a shroud, measure from the water pump's flange to the edge of the mounted shroud and add 3/4" for your spacer length.
The range of adjustability on the spacer's flange allows it to fit several differently sized water pump flanges to ensure proper fit.

Ellen: Hey, everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. And today we're taking a quick look at the Derale universal fan spacer kit for belt-driven fans. This is going to be a two inch spacer to give you a little bit of extra room between your fan and your water pump to make sure that everything can work properly. And this is made out of an anodized aluminum, so it's going to be durable, resist any kind of rust or corrosion. It has just a clear anodized coat.
So, again, we don't have to worry about any corroding. And the nice thing about aluminum is that it's going to help to dissipate the heat faster, so it's not going to build up any heat inside this. It's going to help to keep everything cool, which is the point of our fan.So, we'll have this, and then we'll also have a bushing to put into the female end there. So, depending on your install, you might have to switch it this way or use the male end. So it should be pretty universal to many different installs.
We'll also give two different kinds of bolts. Both of them are going to be 5/16, but one is going to be coarse thread and the other one is fine threads. So this is going to be 5/16, 18 threads. And this is going to be 5/16, 24 threads. We'll also get the flat washers and lock washers to get everything tightened down. As far as the overall measurements for our spacer, again, it's going to measure about two inches long from front to back.
The width will be about 2 1/8. And then, our female opening here measures about 3/4 of an inch in diameter from inside edge to inside edge. If we put that bushing inside, then it becomes 5/8 of an inch. Flip it over to the other side, and that's going to have an outer diameter of 5/8 for that male end. Our flange adjustability is between 1 3/4 inches and 2 1/4.
So 1 3/4 to 2 1/4 is where we can adjust that fan mounting point. So, overall, should be just about everything you need to get that fan spaced out where it needs to be to work properly. And that's going to do it for our look at the Derale universal fan spacer kit for belt-driven fans.
