This solid, 4-mm-thick backing plate installs beneath your boat's gunwale to sandwich the gunwale between the plate and the mounting flange of your rod holder. With this backing plate installed, the gunwale is better protected from stress caused when the rod holder is under extreme load. Without this reinforcing plate, the flange of the rod holder may put undue strain on your gunwale at the attachment point, resulting in spider cracks around the mounting point, or possibly even ripping out of the rod holder.

Hello, neighbors. Steven here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at this backing plate for your CE Smith 70 Series flush mount fishing rod holders. Now this is gonna reinforce the connection between your boat's gunwale and the fishing rod holder itself. So it's a nice stainless steel, 4 millimeter-thick, and, again, it's gonna help prevent spider and cracking and tearing of the gunwale itself. It's constructed of a nice rustproof 316L stainless steel and installed very easily with three 1/4 inch bolts, not included.
As far as some dimensions, overall I'm getting 5 1/2 by 4 inches wide. The mounting holes on center, I was getting 2 1/2, and, if you go diagonally, I was getting about 2 5/8 on center. The oval hole in the center, I was getting 3 3/16 wide. Right at 2 inches even sideways. So, again, folks, nice stainless steel backing plate again for your CE Smith 70 Series flush mount fishing rod holders.

They look good so far and I'm sure they will handle the Ono Mahi Aku and Ahi that I target here in Kona.
